Lawyer claims cops trying to cow students

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 11 — Lawyer for a Universiti Malaya (UM) student who was remanded four days for allegedly refusing to co-operate in an impromptu police search, claimed today authorities are trying to smother growing student activism here.

“The police are intimidated by student uprising in the country. This is revenge as they cannot accept that more and more students are rising up (against authorities),” lawyer Farhana Abdul Halim told reporters today here.

Last Friday, Bukhairi Sufian, 21, was approached by seven plainclothes policemen at the UM main entrance and asked to produce his identity card.

When told to produce the contents of his bag, Bukhairi insisted they frisk him in a brightly lit area “as it was dark and he could not identify if they were real policemen”.

The officers refused and a struggle ensued.

“It was dark and the seven officers were not in uniform. Of course my client had his doubts as to whether they were real policemen when they wanted to search his bag. All he asked was to go to a brightly lit area, but they refused,” Farhana said.

“The police should have been more fair and transparent. Instead, they asserted [their] authority. This is wrong and malicious. We cannot accept this as it is abuse of power,” she added.

Bukhairi was today charged under Section 186 of the Penal Code for refusing to co-operate with police and obstructing a police officer from performing his duties.

“We will fight this, because it is simply unfair,” Farhana said, adding that the mention was set for February 16.

Not far from the place of the drowning incident at Batu Lintang, politicians and cronies have interests in a piece of land now under development.

Sarawakians used to have an old superstition that before any major works are to be done some lives must be sacrificed to appease the spirits.It no longer matters if people believe in that any more. Those two precious young lost yesterday were sacrificed, because the accident could have been avoided if City Council had done their job better in spending on putting up appropriate fences to save lives instead of preventing citizens from political participation. Fences had been put up by Kuching City Council in certain areas in Kuching for crowd control. But were the two innocent young lives sacrificed to keep Najib and Taib in Office?

PM: Malays in peril if Pakatan rules

Malays and Muslims have no choice but to defend the current federal government as this is they only way the future of the Malay race and the dignity of Islam can be safeguarded, said Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

“There are those offering an alternative. The question that needs to be asked is: ‘Can they be better than the present administration?’

“Can they guarantee that the special position we enjoy now will not be eroded?” he said in a speech to two thousand Malaysia Islamic Missionary and Welfare Association (Pekida) members, in Shah Alam today.

Though Najib did not name the so-called alternative, it was clear that he was referring to Pakatan Rakyat in his jibe that followed.

“Even before they are in power they want to reduce the civil service by half… they want to change the flag, to pollute the sanctity of the Malay Rulers and question the policies that help Malays,” he said.

Najib stressed that there will BE no compromise on the special rights of the Malays as enshrined in the constitution.

We're good neighbors.

With all the flood in the last month or so Thailand still managed to come in second in their gold tally. We're fourth but it has just begun to flood in the North.

There's another kind of "football" Indonesia won over us. The labor issue of migrant Indonesian workers. Talks on freezing and unfreezing new workers saw no goal in the last 12 months or so. It's settled and now everyone's happy. Malaysian households are happy and the soccer teams are happy.

A good ending before the end of the year in sporting neighborly spirit.

Memali:
A bloody struggle against ISA

It has been 26 years past since a sad, bloodied, dark historical spot and unforgetable event took place in Malaysia.

The nation then was led by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohammad as PM while Tun Musa Hita, his deputy, was Minister of Internal Affairs. The event, dubbed "Tragedi Memali"[Memali Tragedy] took place in Kampung Memali, in a small district of Siong, Baling, Kedah.

Baling District is a special place for its  numerous hitorical events that had taken place there, one of which was Rundingan Baling pada 1955 [1955 Baling  Conference] between Persekutuan Tanah Melayu [Federation of Malaya] and Parti Komunis Malaya, PKM, [Malayan Communist Party.

The Demonstrasi Baling [Baling Demonstration] spurred by poverty issues happened there too.

As-Syahid Ibrahim Libya and 13 of followers were butchered by security forces equipped with automatic weapons and armoured vehicles.

The Malaysian Government sent 3,500 security forces men to confront Ibrahim Libya and followers together with  Kampung Memali villagers.

At the time, the Malaysian Government justified the killings that Ibrahim Libya committed subversive acts and preached deviant Islamic  teachings.

The charges were later varied - as-syahid[religious struggle] was purported to be subversive with intent to cause public disorder.

Who was Ibrahim Libya?
The late Ibrahim Libya was born in 1944 during the Japanese Occupation Of Malaya in Kampung Carok Putih nearby Kampung Memali.

He was schooled by his father, a well peer respected man in Islamic and  religious education in his village.

Ibrahim continued his Islamic studies in India, Egypt and Libya and  on completion returned home in 1970.

He served in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO/JPM) as a preacher in Pusat Islam (Islamic Center). His religious talks accorded him popularity as a religious speaker and he became a regular over RTM1 [Radio Television Malaysia 1].

He then left JPM [PMO] and worked as a preacher with the Libyan Government. On completion of his services he reurned to his village, Kampung Memali.

A religious school, madrasah, was started for Ibrahim and he commenced thereon with his religious teaching. His competency soon earned him wide acclaim and he gave talks through the length and breadth of Kedah.

On joining PAS Ibrahim Libya stood for local parliamentary elections in 1978 in Bayu, a constituency in Baling District.

He obtained 5,081 votes against 6,169 of his BN opponent. In the subsequent election in the same consituency he contested again but lost.

The "Sins" of Ibrahim Libya
Ibrahim Libya posed a threat to "particular figures"  worrried over his rising popularity. Left unchecked he could pose serious threats to them.

According to Senator Yusuf Husin, whom this writer met several years back, Ibrahim Libya became a threat to the Government as his cogent speeches  moved listeners for changes in national leadership.

Ibrahim Libya became a thorn in the side of Malaysian Government leaders and which prompted the call for his detention under Akta Keselamatan Negeri/ISA [Internal Security Act]. Had the ISA not been forced on Ibrahim Libya, he might have cooperated with the Authorities provided there was due process of law.

The Government's ISA stand drove Ibrahim resolute in his stand and he refused be coerced by draconian laws he regarded as an affront to human rights and values. His followers and his pupils stood  similarly firm  and  solid to protect him.

Kampung Memali was surrounded by thousands of security forces to capture Ibrahim Libya and his followers.

On 19 November 1985 Ibrahim Libya and his followers were martyred as they fell from the assault by Malaysian security forces.

Amongst those alive today under detention included Yusuf Husin.

A symbol of struggle against the ISA.
Ibrahim Libya and 13 others who fell endure as symbols of unrelenting struggles against the ISA.

On the 25th anniversary of the Memali tragedy, Ahmad Lutfi Othman in his editorial wrote:
"He (Read: Ibrahim Libya) fought against the ISA not in memoranda and demonstrations but by putting his life on the line. This is the most esteemed record in the struggle against ISA."
Aptly put Ahmad Lufti euologized Ibrahim Libya's and his followers' sacrifices in steadfastly refusing to be cowed and which symbolized Malaysian citizens unrelenting struggle against the ISA.

One day, if the ISA is abolished a muzium should commemorate these Memali martyrs to remind future generations that the ISA not only robs the freedom of thousands from due legal process. It  does and extinguishes lives.

On a personal note I look upon the Memali Tragedy as unfinished bizness.

A Truth and Reconciliation Commission (Suruhanjaya Kebenaran dan Perdamaian) should be constituted to unravel the mass killings in Memali that took place in that fateful year of 1985.

The result of such investigation should be told to Malaysians and the culprits directly responsible in this merciless acts be properly tried in a court of law.

Twenty six years after this blood letting historical event, the tragedy of Memali should be remembered. Annually throughout the year visitors streamed into the place to see for themselves the remnants of events past that remind them of the Memali tragedy.

Such was the heroism of Ibrahim Libya and his 13 followers. Salute to those martyrs. Salute because they fought against ISA. And Salute to the brave kampung folks of Memali. +

Hu is the President of China. I don't mean who?

You know who is the President of Malaysia. And Obama is the President of America. But Hu is the President of China.

Najib is in a lot trouble now. Obama is in no less. But Hu is in trouble, too.

Najib will not make it again as PM. Obama is in doubt as Americans, like Malaysians, hurt and bleed because of "real values". He might have to meekly return the Nobel to Sweden. But what about Hu?

In a very democratic country like the US, Obama may lose his job. In a not so democratic country like Malaysia, Najib will lose his job. To his wife they say! Maybe we should have a woman as a President. But what about Hu?

It's not so nice for the people of China that after building up the trillions they found no bullions. That's tough. Sukarno used to say ..."Ganyang Malaysia!" So did the People's Republic of China ..."Ganyang America!" PM Najib cannot "Ganyang" anybody. Somebody is hiding his dentures. You wonder who's hiding Mahathir's dentures which need a big container ...like the Bakun Resorvoir, maybe.

But what would it be like if Hu should want to "ganyang" America? Maybe Hu is twice shy having bitten America?

So how would Obama solve America's problem? Maybe follow ancient China's example...build The Great Wall of America. You could employ lots of Americans that way. They did that in China centuries ago. Isn't it strange that the Japanese didn't think about that for the Tsunami? Maybe now they might just do that.

But what about Malaysia? What similar thing could we do? There is a need for Malaysia, too. We could build a bridge to Australia. We could build a speed train, then sell all the refugees to Australia. Couldn't we? Or could we?

Mankind's problems have always been one thing ...ever since a woman gave Adam the apple.

With so many Apples in everybody's clasp, it seems, still, to be the people of China's problem, too!

As for the butter halal issue, I thought Golden Churn is halal. They have to prove it's not. It's not good enough to say it's in "doubt". It's their job to clear the "doubt".

The Johor Coffee maker who used lard should be sent to hell, not deprive honest Muslims the opportunity to make a decent living in the cakes for the forthcoming festivities of Ramadhan. And he can take that JAKIM officer with him.

Coffee beans should not be prepared with lard or butter but toasted ... with the right heat and temperature to give the desired flavor of coffee you can pay. You can pay through the roof to get at the 2,000 or so chemicals buried in those seeds. Or you can roast your own with some very heavy metal pot or kuali and get your desired result.

What if instead of paying money for services you cannot get, we legislate that all food makers declare the "porcine" elements on their products? That would teach us to be honest in bizness and life generally. We have now gone to the extent of blaming butter for our bread.

Don't tell me JAKIM doesn't agree with that? Or do they?

But people will say ... ah ... but what will happen to the Halal Hub? I don't care what will happen to hubba-hubba halal hub. Have they given up creativity and innovation under pretence? Can you bring yourself to indecently give up?

What if the Johor Coffee maker had used margarine? Would that jeopardize the whole world production of palm oil?

"Golden Churn" is a reputable "butter" brand and by reputation has set high standards. The "butter" has been around for the last 6 or so decades enthralling Malaysians in the countless ways it has been used for food - cakes and all and your faithful toasted bread!

In Malaysia we set very high standards and for JAKIM, it's higher! The Johore JAKIM people in the zeal to protect Muslims have jacked up the expectations for Ramadhan during when and building up to Hari Raya Ai'dil Fitri all kinds of delicacies are made with butter as an ingredient.

In May, 2011, JAKIM JOHORE declared "Golden Churn", the Australian butter, not "halal" as it was found to be contaminated with "babi" DNA (porcine). Information on the how and why is scarce. Problem, isn't it? You can't butter your bread on the usual side with Golden Churn if its your favourite.

Is JAKIM churning something?

However, JAKIM (National) have come out with a verbal statement and told TV 9, it was only for specific consignment of the product that was contaminated in Johore. Nothing in print so far has been seen.

If you love Golden Churn, don't whet your appetite just yet. You might just leave that side of your bread alone before you butter anything at all. Who knows? All "butter" is not "halal"?[PIX RIGHT: Golden Roti Bakar ]

With so much radio-active materials mined in Australia, I would be quite concerned if my butter is contaminated that way. But it seems they have buttered up Gebeng, Pahang where PM Najib was born.

KUALA LUMPUR, Jul 11: PAS has condemned the brutality which accompanied the crackdown on Bersih protesters last Saturday, and urge Inspector General of Police Ismail Omar and his deputy Khalid Abu Bakar (pics right) to resign and face a tribunal.

“With so many images and video clips shown, the devious statement from the IGP and his deputy alleging that the police were assaulted and provoked forcing them to act only serves to expose their own lies.

"PAS strongly condemns the police’s barbaric actions which also caused the death of Baharudin Ahmad and injured dozens of people. Hundreds had been kicked, beaten and dragged into trucks, showing a very disgusting side of the security personnel,” said PAS information chief Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man in a statement today.

The massive rally which attracted some 50,000 people at several locations in the city centre was attacked by thousands of police who released tear gas, with hundreds of video clips making their way online showing police brutality on peaceful protesters.

Hours after the protest, a visibly shocked Ismail quickly downplayed the rally, claiming only 5,000 to 6,000 people had attended. Based on such a claim, it would mean, albeit incredulously, that for any group of four people, one was arrested.

Information cascading

Tuan Ibrahim, who was among the thousands at the rally, stressed that Bersih participants were peaceful unlike the government propaganda in the run up to the July 9 rally.

The Pahang PAS commissioner urged said those who attended the rally should spread information about the rally and share their experience to friends and families to counter UMNO's divide and rule tactic.

“If each of the 50,000 people spreads their experience of (joining) Bersih to ten persons, we will have 500,000 who will know and feel. This 500,000, if each of them share to five, then 2.5 million Malaysians who couldn’t be with us on that day can be part of the feeling of being a united Malaysia.

"We will then realise that the attempt to portray that Malaysians were divided is just a ploy of UMN and Barisan Nasional to stay in power,” explained Tuan Ibrahim.

Tuan Ibrahim was however quick to remind his earlier caution to Pakatan Rakyat parties not to take for granted the massive turnout in support of Bersih.

“The people support Bersih 2.0 solely to make sure their votes are not offset illegally by phantom voters or unverified postal votes, as well as to ensure they are allowed to make an informed decision," he stressed.

“The people who supported Bersih 2.0 will not vote for us if we perform poorly and failed to instil confidence in our ability to govern," he warned.

Not difficult. You don't need any whips to crack or irons to chain them in. Just reduce budget deficits. Then the rich will be masters like they used to be and still want to be.

But will a run-away deficit kill everyone? It should with trending in present day government, the BN being the rule rather than the exception. It's the only government we've ever known federally. You can blame Pakatan next.

When you cut deficits, those that die first will be the bottom 5%. Those that escape the tax brackets die from scarcity and rocketing prices. They'll die when their health deteriorates and of course with zero finance, their lives will be in care, least. Do you think the rich would like it? Some wouldn't know whether it's likeable. Some would actually hate it whether their assets dwindle. While some others would just run away, only to find it'll be no different if they can tell in relative proportions.

So what's the big deal? So when have we stopped finding answers? Or more questions? It's one thing to save and another to spend wisely all in pursuit of real sovereignty - here or thereafter.

There is a lot of argument on the Printing Press laws and the ISA and messages of democratization get waylaid. Big change is happening with DAP. They want to reach out to Malay voters, not to sell them pork which even some or more than some Chinese now don't eat, but to plead on rethinking views about how Malaysia can move on and prosper.

Perhaps the Chinese Press and broadsheets can do national duty by having a Bahasa Malaysia section. When these eventually gets used as grocery wrappers, the kampung folks could at least read them. Of course, among the Chinese Press, some are more Malay than Chinese. But it's really the damn printing press laws that essentially have stiffled community education in what newsprint can do.

Did you hear a rooster crow? I just did. Even in broad light in Kuching City. Must hear another at dawn someday.

Malaysian Journalists meekly went to view porn openly when invited by UMNO politicians. Nothing happened. They should have surrendered themselve to the Police. None did.

The Malaysian Government regulates newspapers by the legislation they put up years ago, called the Media and the Printing Press Act. Newspapers need a licence to operate and the decision rests with the Minister of Home Affairs. Here lies the problem.

Malaysians broadly regard all the licensed Newspapers as cronies of the Establishment and those who are not, don't get to do the bizness of selling news and newspapers. In broader terms, there's political and economic repression. Those that reported the transgressions of the authorities are immediately deregistered and banned.

Broadsheets like Utusan Malaysia are legally licensed for the bizness but since the Government censors news incriminating them Utusan has loyally taken the cue and wantonly published news incriminating the Oppositiom and anything else by public notions of indecency.

In a free society you publish and you be damned. But since Malaysia isn't Utusan gets away with murder and more public indecency.

This scaremongering "news", the rumor about Malaysian Chinese who have only 40 seats in the 220 seats in Parliament but will take over Parliament is pure dung. Further, conditionally, when they do they'll change the "official" religion of the country and use Christianity instead which is of course more dung.

Are the Directors of Utusan wrong in law? Substantially not! Why? It's generally not illegal if on April Fools day, you publish news that the Moon has fallen on Pulau Babi. Why should you read pure dung? And why should you pay for it, too?

There's a difficult catch here. The Ministry of Home Affairs stops and bans "other Malaysian" from publishing the truth or some truths, not to say nonsense which those other papers banned and deregistered in the past, did not do all. So The Minister sits on his job literally acting like, despite his honorifics, really a less savoury character.

In this case, technically, Utusan has done nothing wrong publishing rubbish. The trouble is people are still buying them because the Minister says you have no choice. In a healthy and free society, you would "bungkus tikar" or go bust as no one would buy your dung. I would defend Utusan to go bust. Or I would buy them at 1.5 % of net asset value. It's their right to commit harakiri. But since publication in Malaysia is not so varied, choices are there though not any different than Utusan. Worst still they are controlled in equities or some other means by BN Government cronies.

So the Minister of Home Affairs commands the Utusan, by law, to publish rubbish legally. That's a groundbreaking thing, though. It must be one of those "transformation" projects of the Prime Minister. He must have more of where that comes from.

Can you drag the Malaysian Government to Court? No. But you can punish this government at this coming general elections. You have all the reasons to.

It's quite simple really. As for Utusan, I have some use for it - free, as disposable wrapping for my cat's shit.

In the harsh tones of battle politics of Singapore Elections 2011, the Big Cat meowed. Did Singaporeans accept it? Surely some did and some didn't. But PM Lee apologised after the feminine touch of a young budding female politician.

Despite Big Brother Govenment and Media muzzling of the citizenry, the Singaporean rakyat voices were heard, still stifled, though sanguine.

The voters scalped 3 Ministers and won only 6 places whilst the PAP romped home with 80. Has the PAP read the rakyat? They must have. It will tell in the coming days. It will tell whether the widely acclaimed prowess means more than the accolades repeated elsewhere of Singapore's success. The stories are loud. Malaysians look up to their Singapore neighbor and say they won't bat an eyelid at whatever dissenting things you say about Singapore. If you can't chew gum they say it must be bad for you.

In the excitement, anxiety and great expectations whilst waiting for the elections results, a faint musing voice had murmured.

Maybe the opposition lost. Maybe they might not still be fully heard. But if they can't chew gum, they are going to chew up the PAP Government. Some found what they lost. Many may keep what they might have always regarded theirs.

Kenny Tan's tweet does catch you. He found his kampung spirit ... not quite, but close to it. Would he look for it again? Would other Singaporeans look for it, too? Perhaps not in a wide encompaaing public consensus on how to interprete all that national wealth. It may mean different things to different people. But already, they're telling the "Tua Kampung" PAP. Now, if they can't move it, would they shove it?

But still, it seems old worn shoes walk you better. Not to walk you all over bodies in repose.

Popular NSP candidate for Marine Parade GRC Nicole Seah delivered a surprise apology to the Muslim community in Singapore for comments made by PAP walkover MP for Tanjong Pagar Lee Kuan Yew in his controversial book “Hard Truths to keep Singapore going.”

Lee has suggested in his book that the “surge” of Islam has hampered integration of the Malays.

“I think we were progressing very nicely until the surge of Islam came and if you asked me for my observations, the other communities have easier integration — friends, intermarriages and so on…” he stated.

He opined that Singapore Muslims should be less strict on their religion in order to integrate better into Singapore society:

“I think the Muslims socially do not cause any trouble, but they are distinct and separate,” Lee added, calling on the community to “be less strict on Islamic observances.”

Taib wants to sell NCR land and the person who has the last say is a Dayak Iban, James Masing, being the Minister of Land Development or more correctly the "Minister of Land Lelong". The new DUN is yet to approve anything so Wong Ho Leng's Shadow Cabinet had better work real hard. Harder than hard, to be heard. Pakatan has only 15 voices against BN's 55 in Council Negri.

So what would the change in the death of Osama to be announced by Obama be?

There are talks about the lost Y Generation, unconcerned with anything but themselves.

Workers are very exciteable in Singaland. With foreigners taking away their jobs and their hosuing, not much happiness there.

There's excitement about politics in social media where the incumbent PAP candidates talk like BN ones.

With all the grouses, the Zingas may work up some acids in their stomaches as medical tourism fight against their health, as in Malaysia.

The Winners List

The BN government of PM Najib, if it's creditbily is beyond reproach as he and Idris Jala maintain by the alphabet soup, could do one thing in the next election, or the coming GE. It's really for the better not for the opposition but for BN. Call for International Accredited Observers to come and see for themselves. Any shortcomings, which will be plenty with things as they were just recently, if exposed will only prompt action and a declaration to all and sundry, that there is credibility in the BN. In fact it would stymie any blackmail on BN top leaders by corrupt politicians. The rest of due diligience will wrap up everything.

One thing is certain, the forthcoming GE will be tougher. The tell tales are there. It will be a battle not of Malays against Non Malays. It will largely be Malays against Malays; Malays, Chinese and all sundry against corrupt Malays, Chinese, Dayaks, Indians in the BN

The Muara Tuang incident of the PBB candidate, by virtue of the election rules, who was not even reprieved but above reproach, is testimony of how corrupt SPR is. There might be some little tinder of credibility had the BN candidate been any other person but the brother of the CM Taib

Soon after official declared closure of polling on 16 April, SPR Chairman went on air chiding that no-one should communicate any info out of the vote counting location. To that, he added he too, knew what politics was about. That was an unconscious betrayal of a highly suspected person. In this age and time, it belies the extent to which despotism is still ripe in Malaysia. A public servant secure of his own integrity would have noted that as a trifle, after all the final call is from his Office whether false, incorrect or malicious information was transmitted out.

Other incidents of bribery have been documented by SarawakReport.Org.

Evidence of Police intimidation is aplenty.

Despite the little successes of voter flight from BN and the comforting analyses, the coming GE will not make significant changes for reforms. It will be like a salami assault on national integrity. "Things as they are" and with the same misdeeds unrectified, the BN will win again.

It would be a constructive effort if SarawakReport will proceed with their representations to the UN.

SarawakReport.org calls it mass disenfranchisement by Taib and BN. I say the PBB and BN got rural voters by their balls.

We couldn't we get any further in the recent Sarawak Elections. They got us all by the balls. The rural people got intimidated and the BN got their souls.

When I pored through SPR detailed figures what struck was SNAP's figures. Of the 27 it contested, only two candidates did not lose their deposits. Daniel Tajem had said before Polling Day that PR should show who were candidates with good chances of winning. What better people to show him ...the SPR. Well, Mr Tajem ... your judgement was not so "tajam"! It's just that this time there was no Rahman Yakub to become the CM. Long ago many had said and probably will still say ..."Anyone, But Taib". Thank God Salleh Jafaruddin lost to Taib. Because, I too, can still say, "Anyone but Taib!"

KUALA LUMPUR, April 15 — Controversial blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin insisted today he is still behind the opposition cause and denied that he has sold out after giving an interview to TV3.

He caused a stir two days ago when he said on the national television station that he never accused Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and his wife of being behind the gruesome 2006 murder of Mongolian woman Altantuya Shariibuu.

The editor of the Malaysia Today news portal explained his actions in an email interview withThe Malaysian Insider. The full text is reproduced below.

TMI: You were recently in Australia, meaning you have a passport to travel. Where are you now and where are you based? Will you be coming back to Malaysia soon?

RPK: I am currently in Bali. And no, I will not be going back to Malaysia, at least not until the government changes. If Barisan Nasional remains the government then I shall have to be buried in Brookwood beside my mother when I die.

Why do you ask whether I am coming back to Malaysia? Because of my TV3 interview? If I do a TV3 interview and then return to Malaysia (which would mean I can’t if I did not do that interview) would that not be too obvious that the interview was a sell-out? 

Stupid move don’t you think?

TMI: Why did you give the interview to TV3? You have attacked the press, especially mainstream, in Malaysia before. Why trust them? Are there no other avenues?

RPK: Do I need to trust them to give an interview?

I don’t trust you or Malaysian Insider either. I think you are tools for Khairy Jamaluddin and Kalimullah Hassan. Yet you send me this interview and yet I respond. 

You came to me. I did not go to you. TV3 also came to me. I did not go to them.

TMI: Now PKR are calling you a turncoat for what they say is an attempt to discredit Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Is this true, or are they overreacting?

RPK: Anyone who whacks Najib, (Datin Seri) Rosmah (Mansor), (Tun Dr) Mahathir (Mohamad), (Tan Sri) Muhyiddin (Yassin), Khairy (Jamaluddin), (Datuk) Mukhriz (Mahathir) and so on is a patriot, Godsend, loyal Malaysian, and reincarnation of Gandhi and Mother Teresa both in one, as far as the opposition is concerned. 

Anyone who even mildly criticises the opposition or its leaders is a traitor, a turncoat, has been bought, has sold out, is doing it for money, and much more. 

This is typical opposition mentality. 

They accuse the government of not allowing freedom of speech. They mean, of course, freedom to criticise the government. But when you criticise the opposition that is not freedom of speech. You are a Judas.

Show me one thing I said in my TV3 interview that I have not said before. Is there anything new I have said in the TV3 interview or am I merely repeating myself?

People say: I merely write in Malaysia Today. How many people actually read Malaysia Today? How many Malaysians access the internet? Very few! Television, however, reaches 97 per cent of the population, they say.

But when I finally get on television they get upset. Why? Do you think TV3 is going to air my interview if I whack Najib and condemn the government? They give me airtime because I criticise Anwar.

You mean I have never criticised Anwar before? Anwar even criticised me in his talk in Sydney, Australia. You can see the video on Youtube. So we have been criticising each other for a long time. 

In 2004, I resigned from Suara Keadilan in a huff during the PKR Ipoh convention due to a conflict and concentrated full time on Malaysia Today. So the “feud”, if you want to call it that, is seven years old, not something new.

The only difference between then and now is that, then, my criticism was confined to the Internet. Now it is on national television. That is the only difference. And that is the real issue here.

If I had said what I said on Australian radio and television (which I have) then people would not get upset. But when I say the same on TV3 they get upset. This is because TV3 is owned by Umno. But if TV3 happened to be owned by Anwar Ibrahim they would not mind. It is because it is owned by Umno that they are upset.

The trouble is they associate the opposition with Anwar. I am Rome and Rome is me! We need to change that. Anwar is Anwar and the opposition is the opposition. Anwar is not indispensable. We can’t put the entire future of the opposition just on Anwar. 

What happens if Anwar is sent to jail? And there are reasons to believe he will. Does the opposition close down? We must be able to look beyond Anwar. This is not about Anwar. It is about the cause, the fight for change. Sometimes we may need to criticise Anwar to save the opposition.

And have I not said this many times before? So what am I saying now that I have never said before? I am just repeating myself here. Only this time it has gotten onto national television. 

Incidentally, what I am saying is what many are also saying. The only difference is: they whisper behind Anwar’s back and praise him to his face. I tell it to his face. That is the only difference.

When Anwar was in jail from 1998 to 2004, how many of these Anwar “diehards” came to Anwar’s house every Thursday night. I used to go to his house on Thursday nights and the “crowd” was only about 100 or so.

Today, many people are Anwar diehards. Let’s see when the government again sends Anwar to jail whether these same people will be in Anwar’s house every Thursday night or whether the “crowd” will dwindle, yet again, to a mere 100.

Nurul Izzah (Anwar) and I went before the Australian Foreign Affairs Committee last month to brief the Parliamentarians about what the government is doing to Anwar and to ask for the help from the Australian government. One month before that I did this TV3 interview (although it just came out).

So, on the one hand I ask foreign governments to help Anwar. On the other hand I also criticise Anwar. Anwar and the cause are two separate issues. I may support one but I may criticise the other because they are two different issues.

TMI: Some have interpreted this as you saying DS Najib and his wife are not involved in the murder of Altantuya. Is this what you’re saying? Or are you still convinced they are involved?

RPK: Have you read my statutory declaration, which is the focus of my first interview? Did I allege they are involved in the murder or did I say that Lt-Kol Azmi Zainal Abidin made that allegation and, therefore, this has to be investigated? What I signed in that June 2008 SD is what I am still saying today.

TMI: People are speculating, as Malaysians do, that you gave this interview for reasons such as money or a deal to allow you to return to Malaysia without being charged or arrested. Your response?

RPK: Malaysians always and only think about money. So they try to read into everything you say or do as being about money. If I praise Anwar and the opposition, it is not about money. It is about the struggle, the cause, ideals, and so on. 

Why don’t they also say that you were paid by Anwar to support the opposition? Only when you criticise the opposition and/or Anwar is it about money.

When a person is a thief, he imagines everyone else also as thieves. So when people only think about money, they always think that what you are doing must be about money. It can’t be for other reasons.

Amazing Google Earth!

A buzz on Pending Bridge sent me scanning Google Earth and the links it can provide plus some embedding.

Anyway the story is carried by "Koteng Keramat" which name in a sense is like a Sage with magical powers who once lived in Kampung Tupong Petra Jaya in N 6 Tupong where Daud Abdul Rahman is contesting against PKR's Baharuddin Mokhsein.

Apparently the story goes that as an engineer Daud had a firm which designed the Pending Bridge for the JKR. The stupid bridge has been in trouble since late 70's or early 80's and it's still in trouble today. Daud has since become a very important figure in Taib's cabinet looking after Islamic Affairs. It seems Daud has become some kind of Sage with magical powers like "Koteng Keramat"!

Well, why not! Taib has all kinds of bomoh and the latest in his collection is a blonde bomoh who he brought over to Balingian for her magical powers.

But, doesn't it still bother people that since early 1900's when Koteng lived, Taib and Daud are still clowing around? It's been raining these last weeks and there's a lot of water under the bridge. Troubled water?

Dr Sim Kian Hui, a surgeon, SUPP candidate for Pending, is a funny man. He's touted as Professor Sim. Must have been teaching, too, whilst serving in the government medical service. Which is fine and very laudable for him and we acknowledge and appreciate that.

Standing as SUPP candidate for N 10 Pending, he'll be up against the notable DAP candidate Violet Yong, a lawyer and incumbent DUN member, who had brushes on parliamentary governance with CM Taib in the House.

Don't know what others think about these two candidates. I think Yong is a perky individual for a politician. On some evenings when you're eating out at Kuching food stalls, don't be surprised if she turns up with posters and the Rocket paper, a full smile on her face.

Apparently these two are gungho on accessing younger voters. Where Yong charms listeners with her singing skills on the campaign trails, Sim has tried to pander to jingles, a trademark of BN people. The Sarawak Star dubbed these as his taglines of "Real Heart Real Action, Real Change". His declared struggle is improvement of "the medical situation in Sarawak". Not sure what he thinks about health but his being a surgeon sends chills.

But Sim had publicly called for the Federal Government to take over a private hospital outfit called the SIMC, Sarawak International Medical Centre, a high sounding project plagued by dubious deals connected to George Chan, the SUPP Chairman and Sim's boss now.

What bugs me most is Sim's blase declaration in his challenge to set up a "Local Consultative Committe" in 100 days on being elected. Now he doesn't sound perky like Yong but very pesky. We want local "local ∧^government elections" for Kuching and Sarawak where citizens can articulate their rights and their future. Here you have this funny pesky little man who won't think twice about health but would be quite quick to dig into you with his scalpel. He wants to be a Ketua Kampung, a Kapitan, who will dish out his commands and prejudices like Taib does. Wei! Apa ini orang?

What do you think will be the outcome? Hardly pending for Sim!

Kuching, not purring | Muara Tuang promising

Kuching/ Padungan.

News of PBB boys going round the houses in Malay residential areas asking for ID numbers of households, purportedly to help get personal info facilitating polling on April 16. It's early or too late or whatever, in view of April 16, but it seems crazy that this still needs to be done now or via going houses. The Malay votes are not going to matter in Padungan as there are only a sprinkling of them there. The DAP must be very confident of getting Chinese votes.

Whether its DAP or PKR, voters should be sick of bumping across them and seeing them around. And if its a matter of checking Polling Day details a temporary booth somewhere with a worker on a laptop would make presence felt.

With the PBB boys going round houses, they may be up to mischief. SPR is not rakyat friendly and non-compliant of election rules as in in N15 Muara Tuang whereNoraini Hamzah was denied PAS of a victory.

Wan Azizah, PKR Party President is now asking Dominic Ng to withdraw when earlier she had said it was his right.

I don't feel DAP's presence in Padungan, Kuching as compared to before when NG was shoving his nose under people's faces you got sick of him and relented. The DAP Candidate Wong's blog is dead and not updated for 12 months. Did PR manage this right? In keeping a brazen previously hardworking Ng occupied with work that he can't think of anything else? Information is very lacking on what's going on. It doesn't help that Taib is stopping Malayan boys and girls from coming in to help. The challenges in Sarawak are plenty, in addition to intimidations from the Police.

Election time is about rights, rightly or wrongly perceived makes a lot of difference. But Padungan is ripe for SUPP's picking.

While trying to confirm the final list of official Candidates for the 2011 Sarawak Elections, I trawled for some predictions and came up with The Sarawak Head Hunter's opinion. No info how he came up with it but still it's interesting.

Several places with 4-way fights and Belaga has 6-way. Ngemah and Machan have 5-way and Talip Zulpilip, BN, is facing 5-way in Jepak. I have no hangup about Talip but he's wasted (State wise) for Sarawak whilst in BN.

Interesting and highly optimistic for Change.

Nomination forms for the elections todate number 650, averaging to 10 candidates per DUN Seat. Tomorrow, 6th April is Nomination Day and perhaps only 180 of these will be returned for contest on 16 April.

300 contestants from 3 major contesting parties for the 71 seats would be quite a lot and very unlikely, otherwise this election could well be a mud wrestling contest with the shit hitting the ceiling. Puts to mind, if ever such a contingent situation ever arise, the Election Commission would be least preprared as their major declared effort has been to transport voters, which is very questionable - citizens voting for whom will they transport? Then there's the additional helicopters from Indonesia and Phillipines.

When Lady Hodgeson (min 0:20 sec) mentioned Taib’s speech, her response was well coated, and by her “lordy-wordy” polite jargon, “these problems are shared”. She is merely saying Taib and his policies sucks.

Taib curi tanah, kayu, tanam palm oil – where got land to plant food left. Sarawak’s agriculture is in a mess. There’s no farming culture but “curi culture”.

She is saying – “Taib, you’re telling us nothing new. We’ve got enough problems and you’re coming here and telling us to mess more of it up! We’re not dumb. We heard you curi tanah and curi balak!”

Food supply in Sarawak and Malaysia is no joke, ah! Gomen say we want to maintain 70% safety margin, whatever that means. It’s like eating 10 grains of rice, 3 of which you have to buy from overseas.

If world food supply has been screwed up by jerks like Taib, the shortage globally will bring more trouble. Those money robbers will short supply of grains on the market and we won’t be able to afford to eat 7 grains then. Don’t talk about buying 3 overseas.

What with our household debt[#] hitting the roof and increasing by some RM25 billions from RM486 billions this year and going up to RM511 billions next year, mati kena otang, lor!

It doesn’t matter how much money they can fcuk into the system. It matters you’re going to be forced into “otang”!

Which means it’s slavery! They’re forcing you into slavery.

This is in addition to forcing you to let them mess up your Bible by defacing it.

You can take back some respect lah. How? How about putting Taib, PBB and the whole lot of them on the cross. But when voting you mark PR lah! :D

PUTRAJAYA: A Sarawak citizens initiative has warned that it will take to the streets if the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) does not probe state chief minister Taib Mahmud.

The ultimatum from the Movement for Change Sarawak (MoCS) leader Francis Siah comes amid preparation for the Sarawak state election on April 16.

Siah, who submitted a letter of demand to the MACC at its headquarters in Putrajaya today, asked why there has been no action against Taib despite the overwhelming evidence, including documentary proof, provied by whistleblowers.

Dayak and Dacing

The Dayaks, comprised of 8 groups form almost half of the total voters in the coming Sarawak Elections on April 16, 2011. Which contesting party will they give their votes mostly to?

Flung far and wide over 124,450 sq. km of Sarawak lands, some are even in Johore and Malacca now, they're difficult to reach. Back in 1987, there was said to be the issue of Dayakism, thought to be feelings of Dayak nationalism. Then, 24 years ago or 24 years earlier than that in 1963, it was thought to be at odds with Malaysian nationalism. In 1987, Leo Moggie, then head of the PBDS, a splinter of the preceding Dayak party, SNAP, told the Dayaks and everyone else, no single ethnic group could govern Sarawak and he went on to join the Kumpulan Maju which then lost the 1987 State Elections to the BN, helmed by the present CM Taib Mahmud.

PBDS and Leo Moggie were right and politics in Sarawak then forgot about Dayak nationalism and thereafter it was just about a lot of other "isms". The trouble was perhaps the foreboding prospect of being anti-Malaysia. For having lost all of the mineral wealth that Sarawak has many citizens would explode at the very thought.

But was it wrong for the Dayaks then or now to have feelings of honor and pride in their ethnicity or even race? Or for any one else for that matter. And when misconception was confronted by confusion why did it stop dead at that? Well, in Malaysia, up till even now, thinking is dangerous. In the case of the ISA Law, Raja Petra famously quoted Mahathir Mohammad as having said, Malaysians should be arrested before committing any act prohibited by the draconian piece of legal clamping. You will be arrested if you just have the thought. It's a law to prevent you from thinking. Had USA have ISA, there won't have been a 911. So said Mahathir!

We are not saying that the Dayaks would all go amok. They're civilised people. We're saying about the articulation of ideas and feelings in the culture of thinking which can only be nurtured in an reasonable wholesone environment, one where there is non encumbrance of thought for justice and freedom, a tribute to human intellect and noble aspirations.

Well, the ruling BN government will offer everyone their party's manifesto that will sing to high heaven and will be symbolized by their "dacing" or scale. And for the Dayaks, what will it be? Will it just be the symbol of the dacing of the BN? The reality so far is far from the truth. Will they, or any other Sarawakian see only symbols of "1Malaysia", symbols of the dacing and whatever else and none of the real thing?

Did he really? Many thought he did have a big scare. They, not him, did have a big scare. He probably didn't!

At about the same period Leo Moggie, then leader of Party Bansa Dayak Sarawak (PBDS) then accused of formenting Dayakism, but now deregistered, had declared he could accept anyone as Chief Minister of Sarawak, but Taib Mahmud. Leo Moggie's party PBDS was then in coalition with Rahman Yakub, Taib's uncle, and who was head of the coalition called "Kumpulan Maju".

Who would had been then be acceptable to Leo Moggie? Naturally, Rahman Yakub, Taib's uncle!

What about now? Don't matter no more. He's out of this darn politics he had said.

What about CM Taib Mahmud now? The previous week he talked as if he was "nyanyuk". That trace of arrogance had gradually toned down. Perhaps it must be his new young bride's influence. Well, why not?

If RM52.00 per voter is not enough to expend for the 2011 Sarawak Election, there must be some amends. Election Commission is not dumb after all. As transport is so vital for voters, they'll get more helicopters from our friendly neighbors Philippines and Indonesia. And why not? It might just make the effort more expeditious.

And for whose victory? The question does not arise to EC ... they're just paid to do the job.

It's just going to cost RM52.00 per registered voter. The total registered voters is 976,796 voters including 18,363 postal voters. This is only some 40% of Sarawak's total population of 2,420,009 million Sarawakians [Est 2010 census].

Over an area (est 124,450 sq km) as big as Malaya (131,000 sq km) with transportation comparatively underdeveloped Sarawak is traversed by rivers and mountains. How could we help right away? Take a guess. How about -

- not eating food of 207 Japanese;
- not using transport of 207 Japanese;
- not using power, now rationed, 207 Japanese;
- might not be using medicines of 207 Japanese;
- not using general services of 207 Japanese, among them could be infants, babies and old Japanese.
