Heard the shoe company received huge orders for the shoe model and had to employ extra staff to cope with the demand. They should name the shoe Throw-Bush just like that Nunn-Bush shoe line.

Shrek remember at Jamrah, many hajj threw their shoes at the Satan. The floor is littered with shoes and slippers. Shoe business picking up. Jimmy Choo watch out.

Next Bush press conference will be in a mosque. Very safe as no shoes allowed in mosque.

I won't be so sure, shrek!

I remember in Medina I went in slippers during slow hours and brought my sandals in but nicely in a cloth shoe sack, so I won't get them mixed up with others. It was not out of disrespect but more for orderly passage lah - you could loose your sandals or shoes and have to barefootedly walk back.

In any case after Bush is shooed out of office no American will need sandals, which actually are more fun to throw around! :))

Yam Tuan Besar passed away. Wonder who will be next Yam Tuan Naqiyuddin or Imran? Guess Undangs have to make selection.

Maybe the Melewars have a chance this time. Maybe the Lenggang will also be considered.

Would it be the Olympic Chairman fler? He has resigned from the Company which owed Bruce Willis!

The royalty that proposed full rights to the sovereign is also from NS. One of the boys seemed very impatient to me just as Carol K is eager to enter the House.

They were riding high when their dad was the Agong. They really milked the system. It is the same with the rest, they take rotation every 5 years. Every 5 years a new family gets the bounty.
You and me no milk cow, have to settle for soybean milk. Even then they try to corner soybean market. We are left with tofu skin. OK lah tofu skin good in mee curry. Even settle for watered down Tow foo fah.

Salak said...

Tofu in mee curry is new to mee! Never saw that in Kuching, that would interesting to try!

I'm trying to plan a few days next year in Malaya to see the rail systems and take it back pack from KL, leave my other things there. It might be better from Johore right up to Penang!

There's a big world in the rails, shrek - the hardware, the supporting people, passengers, land disputes, accidents, goods-in-transit, happy people, sad ones, etc. Just imagining getting pix and videos. With a 4Gig card on the phone, you don't need notebooks! :))

See lah how it goes!

Salak

You never tried Tofu Pok in mee curry? Very nice. There's a place by Lot 10 in KL called Bon Ton. They have a great mee curry. Pricy though. I used to like the mee curry at Blues Club but no longer there.
Yes take KTM Keretapi Tanah Melayu JB to Padang Besar. Wonderful journey. You see the back side of things, not the scenery from the highway but the byways, kampongs, squatter areas, farmlands and jungles (not that you need more)
4Gigs not enough. You need card reader to download card to laptop each day. Cheap at $ 9 only. Nowadays they have wireless chips for cameras that downloads to PC without cables. Expensive tho at $ 90.
I have travelled by train many times from Singapore to Bangkok vice versa. I've also took ferry from Melaka to Pekan Baru (indonesia) and from Penang to Dumai (Medan, Indonesia) Traveled by train from Jakarta to Bandung and Jogja. Wonderful scenery. Treasure those moments.

Salak,

When I explained to you how to change the template, you said I am a lousy teacher hehehe so now do do I hear a "Thank you"?????

LOL

I love the food at Bon Ton cos when I stay ar Parkroyal, itis just next door...lovely, convenient although pricey..

We had a great party that ended at 2.30 am!!! Wish you guys could have been here with us!

cheers

Paula

Wow, Park Royal, Shrek can only afford the Esplanade (formerly Forum Fairlane) small nice accommodation, very homely, extra friendly staff and where Shrek is addressed by name by even the doorman. Out the front door and there is Bon Ton.

Nice to hear you guys had a good night out. Will take a raincheck.

Anonymous said...

Shrek, you're such a show off, telling readers you stay at the Esplanade and Forum Fairlane and all. I can only afford Bed & Breakast where back packers on shoe-string budgets stay!

Anonymous said...

Mr Bean

It shows you haven't been back to KL for sometime now. Forum Fairlane is a very small budget hotel, not as what you think. Shrek is not one of those well heeled person. There's nothing to show off.
Don't be too humble Bean. I bet you never stayed at a back packer hotel in your whole life. And your idea of Bed and Breakfast is more the likes of Carcosa Seri Negara. Kedah royalty style mesti ada. Jatuh lah company.

Anonymous said...

Hello Shrek

Actually if Parkroyal can be cheap if you or your friends have the membership..then you get free nights' stay, 75% off or 50% off so it is worth it because of the central location and also the food there is good.

Just came back on an eating spree and shopping spree with Jong and Peng...Took them for Thai massage but unfortunately, there were only two massage therapists available so I came home instead.

Next time if ever any of you are in Malaysia, please look me up and I will be pleased to make you horizontally challenged!

Happy new year and all the best everyone!

My deepest condolence to the Negeri Sembilan Royal Family.

I'm sorry to learn of the passing of His Royal Highness Tuanku Ja'afar Tuanku Abdul Rahman, late last night. Haven't been reading newspapers, on the internet or tv since yesterday afternoon. Just read Shrek's comment about his demise.

Anonymous said...

Shrek,

Tunku Naquiyuddin his eldest son has been groomed to succeed his father, guess he will be the next Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan although the Conference of Undang by the Four Undangs will be held to formerly pick a successor.

Shrek,

Justice is served and is seen to have been served after 51 years!

Congratulations! Yes Tunku Mukriz, nephew of Tuanku Jaafar is now the chosen Yang Di-Pertuan Negeri Sembilan. I am happy for him.

I watched live on RTM 1 when the 4 undangs made the historical announcement and he did not expect he is the chosen one looked surprised, somewhat state of shock but managed to keep his cool.

Shrek, KJ the grave-digger only does things that benefit him. At Endon's grave, he knew the cameras were shooting that direction and he desperately needed to be seen and be associated to the Prime Minister's family and that explains why he jumped into the grave.

Well that crafty guy got what he wanted so far. He is a strategist, his every move is calculated just like when he deliberately ramped into Nori's car just to get to know her. It works only in nincompoops I guess.
Have you heard of strategists that get bashed up in glass doors, Shrek?

Salak said...

Hi, I'm back and sorry for the disappearance. And neither have I gone into hiding to shed of skins! :))

What's happening with undangs and KJ. I need some education here. Have heard of the demise of the NS royalty. Any man's death affects all other man. And I share this grief.

"The King is dead! Long live the King! - Bean"

Bean according to generally what I know of pepatih, it's supposed to be Queen, as far as it goes! So it goes King as well as for Queen. It's as good as people die, long live the people. I know we have a King and Royalty system, and they may be around for a while and that we have to live with it, as we do with other things. As also we live with other things.

So if you mean, they're going to be around forever, we'll have to live and die with it but as in bizness, there is always competition. The Europeans of earlier days ran away to America to be free from Kingship and royalty and persecution and now they're not doing too badly ! :))

Salak said...

Thank you, Jong!

Now we have Kingship in dire staits and we have a government that is not straight!

Next will we have an economy that will bury us instead of enriching us, making sure mothers are healthy to bear young ones to ensure thei god-given talents of future generations are put to use to straighten things out?

Salak said...

That I think is an essence of "pepatih", people!!!

Anonymous said...

Salak,

"The King is dead. Long live the King!"

The dead king is a person, a mortal like you and me. The second King is an institution and institutions don't die.

They wither away :)

CT said...

Hello Salak,Paula,Jong & Shrek...just dropping by to see Salak's new template. Seems like I'm at the wrong place because I don't really like politic...so I just be a passive reader...hope you all don't mind me here:))

Anonymous said...

Posts that include cartoon images that go over the top and serve only to insult the royalty, however oblique they may be, should not be allowed to stand.

It is an insult to the institution.

Anonymous said...

ooops "that include" to read "including"

Anonymous said...

You've seen one such cartoon lately?

Salak said...

Mr Bean,

The Kingly institution is not in the land of the of America whose inhabitants have ancestors who were King and royalty. Shoes have been thrown at Bush, another kind of but not exactly King. Bush is a kind of, but not exactly, King of Kings! Shoes were thrown at Bush in the land where it was believed there is a greater "King". And this is the "King" people should pay homage to in "love" not in unfair and unseen taxes.

I understand your opinion. I'm sure there might be other opinions, too.

This discussion is not meant to humiliate anyone. It's a kind of commentary of what reality is now. In a few days, 2009 will be on us. Many think, as many others do not, it was caused by Mr Bush, a kind of "King of Kings"!

Salak said...

Oh Mr Bean,

Thank you for your advice!

One may have to cross that bridge when one gets to it!

Anonymous said...

Read about the President who wants to be King:

http://uniorb.com/RCHECK/kingbush.htm

In Malaysia today some Kings want to be Presidents.

Anonymous said...

I'm all for the preservation of the constitutional monarchy in Malaysia. When constitutional monarchs over step their boundaries - and exceed their job description so to speak - it could be seen as disturbing the delicate balance of power. We often forget that the CoF (Conference of Rulers) is a fourth pillar of government.

PR has turned to the royalty apparently as a last resort to try and put a check on the excesses of the executive. This is a dangerous maneuver which could end in calls for the end of constitutional royalty as we know it. The more perceptive among the Malay Rulers understand this and look at it as the proverbial slopes they would do well to avoid.

Salak said...

Yeah what about undernourished mothers in Africa, Malaysia and everywhere else where there still still poverty in the midst of plenty?

Salak said...

I like shoes. Don't you? I had none when I first went to school. They didn't mind.

The trouble now is that all kids must wear white colored shoes! They won't let you get an education if your shoes are not white.

From the Kedah Royalty, you didn't need any. You came to school by elephant! Bloody hell! In any case, its better than Proton! :))

Lucky I didn't become a cobbler. Otherwise, I'd repair your soles and cobble you! ;)

Well, Mr Bean!

Today is Maal Hijrah. The first day of Muharram. Some quirks on my Hijri Calendar! It should show today as 1st day of Muharram!

Don't you feel we should move on? Our Islamic Calendar says it's the First Day of the Islamic Year!

Well, allow me to wish Muslim readers a safe and Happy Maal Hijrah and

for everyone else for 2009!

Anonymous said...

Attended an Islamic New Year (Hijrah) get together yesterday. Interesting to discover how the Hijrah calender came into being. Islam is the religion with the largest number of followers yet the Hijrah calender is not widely used. Wonder how many people know the various months in the Hijrah calender including the sequence.

In the evening attended an international wedding. Bride from India and groom from South Africa. Wedding done in California. The culture of 3 continents were on display. Got an education on Bidai and Vamila. Interesting similarities to Malaysian wedding rituals.

Coincidentally both Hijrah and Gregorian calender begin within a couple of days. 1430 Hijrah and 2009 CE. So folks Happy New Year.

Ooops! I thought it was Julian! Maybe they improved on it!

Our wedding ceremonies were probably adapted from Indian customs, shrek! If not from Indonesia which had a longer haul over ours. Some Malaya people like Rais might think differently. Regardless, the ceremonies might be ocean apart, its the ends that count rather than the means! :))

You're not getting ideas are you, shrek? ;)

On the subject of the lunar calendar and solar calendar, the Islamic calendar and the Chinese calendar is neither.

But Man’s fascination with the moon is legendary.

The nomadic tribes in the deserts of Arabia had only the moon to guide them when traveling across deserts on their camels. Small wonder that Allah (Egyptian for God) in pre-Islamic days was the Moon God. In Greek mythology, Artemis was the Goddess of the moon and Apollo was the sun God.

For thousands of years the Chinese have been organizing their lives around the moon and would celebrate their mid-Autumn harvest on the 15th day of the eighth month by eating mooncakes under the full moon, and (check this out) pomelos!

So we have Jong to thank because it was Jong’s ancestors who must have introduced pomelos to Ipoh and to Malaysia.

As for Salak, he would go looney every time there is a full moon.

Salak said...

Mr Bean,

You don't know the Arabs, do you?

There are folklore stories of Stars and there are arabic names for the planets. There aren't any that Rais Yatim can rattle off as Malays.

The Moon by itself is a poor navigation guide, my friend. There has got to be relativity. You have to cast something to something. The Moon has no constancy, well less. Find out from the old Bard what is more constant.

If you think I'd go looney on the Moon, you're less than right. If I were to get anywhere in miles and miles of sand and dunes with the guide of the moon I'd die quite sooner than soon.

It's the Stars my friend. The old sea navigation instruments were also found with the Arabs. Of course, the Chinese had theirs, too. The Chinese are smarter - the paper the Fed base their lies on were actually the Chinese idea. Perhaps, Old Man Kung knew better! Cheng Ho had to sail past Malacca to go to the Middle East and world beyond to seek out more than firecrackers that they had already invented.

The Moon is a bad idea for agriculture. In the equatorial region there is only one season - wet-dry! Go up further North or South your crops will not be planted if you depended on the Moon. What you could do, is hustle up a lot of maths because any round thing is 360º. But so some jokers loved the moon like you, Mr Bean, singing like a love-sick ox! ;)

Like your weighing scale, the Lunar year needs a lot of calibration. I hate details so you can hustle up the maths - working out the difference of 10 or so days between the lunar and solar year and making sense of when not to grow anything when there is snow in the ground.

No, Joker Bean! It takes more than the looney moon to get one out of tune! ;)

Again on the subject of harvest festivals, I believe the best time to visit Sarawak to give thanks to the spirits would be during the Gawai festival. Why not?? I would get to taste tuak at every door of the 30-door long house. By the time I get to the last door, I would be so full of spirits that any Iban girl would look just like the other!

As always the best spirit to give thanks to would be my favorite 12-year old whiskey - Chivas Regal.

Salak said...

Don't be silly! You can get Tuak in KL. But if you're in Kedah they'd hide it under the car seat!

Many Iban girls now, don't like drunks, Bean. You better watch out. Or they'll kick your ass out! :D

Salak said...

Is that so great huh, joker Bean?

Watch out you don't liberally insinuate Iban girls with "just with sex and spirits!"

Like that, ho! You won't get to the plankwalk of a leisure cruiser lah! :))

What about a drunken sailor with a credit card??

Salak said...

"A" credit card? How many number of Credit Cards you got! :D

The Federal Reserve is full of credits! What's "A" (one) credit Card!

Common lah. Go to your Uncle's grave and offer some prayers on this new year day! It can bring one calmness and serenity!

Yeah, don't forget to stay sober or the bottle will do the prayers! :D Go back to bed!

I have to go to the Airport! Cheers!

Anonymous said...

Salak,

Btw, is "tuak" same as "toddy"? Just curious. I've tried toddy but I'm not sure if tuak is the same, although the Chinese refer to toddy as "tuak".

Kensan was talking about "toddy" in Kampong Koh, Lumut area. According to him the best time to go for toddy is around noon when they are freshly brought in from the coconut plantation.

Anonymous said...

Mr Bean,

Watch the direction you are going on Iban girls! Any Iban reading your comment will not be too pleased. Too much Chivas Regal for you tonight eh?
Next time try an 18-year old, smoother and kinder. Goodnight!

Anonymous said...

Chivas Regal 18-year old is good, also try Glenfiddich - go for the 18-year old, you will love it.

Salak said...

Sorry, Jong,

I'm not into this alcohol thing. I have so little brain cells left, spirits won't increase them!

But they say reading a good book, poetry or doing maths sums, will agitate these bloody cells creating more electrical charges in the brain cells and memory function.

As with most things, just don't get electrocuted by your own brain energy ! :))

Anonymous said...

Salak,

Since you have very little cells to begin, you cannot lose what you don’t have.

Jong,

That bit about the 18-year old (spirit) is a good one. But I don’t think there’s an 18-year old Chivas Regal. The next one would be the 21-year old Royal Salute (still a Chivas Regal).

Talking of Iban spirit, a drunken sailor with a credit card is not expected to know the difference between a 18-year old (“smoother and kinder”, according to you) and a 12-year old. I don’t know about “smoother and kinder” (spirit) but the last time I had, it was rough as hell.

The new year is around the corner, there should be good spirits all round.

Anonymous said...

Bean,

Yes, there is Chivas Regal 18 year old Gold Signature. I have a half bottle, wanna be my guest? :D

Salak said...

That's strange, Bean.

Even without any left I'm beginning to feel some vibes. Perhaps, you've given a few new ones? Thanks, Man!

That's easier isn't it Jong, it's labelled. Tuak or toddy they say is not. I've been told generally ethanol is identified in good alcohol in adequate level. Good tuak is either way, good or bad. You can't get it right all the time. But I hardly drink any. How would I know?

But Bean, there are legal guidelines of buying and selling alcoholic drinks, aren't there? You know better! You should point out why the authorities are selling to anyone, age regardless

Anonymous said...

Jong

The fresh one are called Nira. Toddy is the fermented nira. In Trengganu you will see lots of roadside stalls selling Nira Madu. Really sweet and refreshing.

Once it arrives at a toddy shop it's already fermented. High alcohol content. I once worked in an office in Chow Kit close to a Toddy shop. There's a stampede each time the toddy truck arrives. You have to rent your mug and queue for the toddy. Poor man's high.

Anonymous said...

Thanks Shrek, looks like I need to go to Trengganu for their Nira Madu?

Maybe I'll order by the barrels and feed the UMNO candidate and his BN supporters during campaign period for them to dozzzzzz off. That will do the trick. Remember the empty BN booths at Permatang Pauh?

Anonymous said...

Anonymous said...

Will your hubbie be at home??

Anonymous said...

Bean,

Who needs a hubbie when one can have a big apple to munch? :D

Let me share with you a joke today...

A lawyer and a blonde are sitting next to each other on a long flight from LA to NY. The lawyer leans over to her and asks if she would like to play a fun game. The blonde just wants to take a nap, so she politely declines and rolls over to the window to catch a few winks.

The lawyer persists and explains that the game is really easy and a lot of fun. He explains" I ask you a question, and if you don't know the answer, you pay me $5, and vice-versa." Again, she politely declines and tries to get some sleep.

The lawyer, now somewhat agitated, says, "Okay, if you don't know the answer you pay me $5, and if I don't know the answer, I will pay you $500," figuring that since she is a blonde that he will easily win the match. This catches the blonde's attention and, figuring that there will be no end to this torment unless she plays, agrees to the game.

The lawyer asks the first question. "What's the distance from the earth to the moon?" The blonde doesn't say a word, reaches in to her purse, pulls out a five dollar bill and hands it to the lawyer. Now, it's the blonde's turn.

She asks the lawyer: "What goes up a hill with three legs, and comes down with four?" The lawyer looks at her with a puzzled look. He takes out his laptop computer and searches all his references. He taps into the Air phone with his modem and searches the Net and the Library of Congress.

Frustrated, he sends E-mails to all his coworkers and friends he knows. After over an hour, he wakes the blonde and hands her $500. The blonde politely takes the $500 and turns away to get back to sleep.

The lawyer, who is more than a little miffed, wakes the blonde and asks, "Well, so what IS the answer!?" Without a word, the blonde reaches into her purse, hands the lawyer $5, and goes back to sleep!

Dear Salak & Friends,

As we draw close to the remaining few hours of Year 2008, let's reflect on what an eventful year it has been - year of "Change" from politics, global economic crisis, climatical & enviromental upheavel and problems of world food hunger.

For me 2008 has been a year of 'action'. I have stood up for many things, cut down on negative energies and stood up to bullies and manipulators. I have also managed to establish boundaries and made it known where they can't cross and what I will not accept.

Tomorow gives us Vision and Hope and as we usher in Year 2009, let's look to the bright side of things, be prepared to tighten our belts and lie low when things get too rowdy.

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

Anonymous said...

2008 has been Abdullah Badawi's annus horribilis. With the global recession now looming large over the horizon, 2009 is not going to be anybody's ikan bilis.

Let's hope 2009 will turn out to be Najib's annus ...

I'll be happy with just being a frog!

Salak said...

2nd happay new wishes to everyone. I already said it for Maal Hijrah. No problem! Everyone seems happy.

This must be the new year of frogs. For Pakatan Rakyat frogs will be welcome! 2008 have made a lot of people jumped, whether its wealth (lack of it) or power.

Frogs are good, just like humans they are part of the total ecosystem. Many fish and snakes eat frog eggs and tadpoles. Frogs eat mosquitoes and many other insects. And of course mosquitoes can kill you with malaria and dengue.

With some airheads from Oxford the BN government is thinking of exterminating mosquitoes from the face of the earth in Malaysia because they kill people with the dengue. But the dengue virus actually comes from sick people. Since the Oxford airheads and BN gomen are so humane they won't exterminate people dengue carriers. They'll just kill all mosquitoes; in the process it's all right if people die of dengue anyway. These Oxford airheads are clever.

Today is Bank Holiday. Bankers too, need holidays, even if they don't "work" - they buy a RM100.00 note for maybe RM1.50 that its worth.

I have a feeling mosquitoes will make better bankers. Listen to this -

"The mosquito knows full well, small as he is
he's a beast of prey.
But after all
he only takes his bellyful,
he doesn't put my blood in the bank.

The Mosquito Knows
- Lawrence

And maybe when they thrive we can have frogs catch them! With or without the dengue! When frogs become princes we'll be well on the journey to preserve royalty.

Happy New Year, everyone and God bless! :))
