Kuching Waterfront - Vigil by PKR Sarawak

Ng and Police face off at Kuching Waterfront

In clear support with their national PR counterparts against the constitutional limbo in Perak, PKR Sarawak staged a peaceful vigil at the Kuching Waterfront yesterday evening, May 7.

For the peaceful gathering, 10 PKR members were arrested but later released.

linasoo.com carries more details and the subsequent release from Police detention.

The Borneo Post print edition May 8, reported "armoured police trucks" rolled out to the Kuching Waterfront -

Dressed entirely in black, Ng, who is also Kuching PKR chairman, led the group which included his wife and two other women to an open space at the Kuching Waterfront next to Main Bazaar where they proceeded to light candles. They were, however, met by a huge contingent of police officers led by district police chief ACP Wong Wai Loong and his deputy Supt Abang Ahmad Abang Julai along with a Light Strike Force unit which arrived in armoured police trucks.

Police immediately advised the group to disperse as they did not have a police permit for the gathering, which was deemed illegal, but theadvice went unheeded and police were forced to move in to prevent the situation from getting out of hand. When contacted following the incident, Ng said that initially the police only wanted to arrest him but the other members insisted that they too be similarly detained as a show of solidarity.

He also questioned the rationale of having such a large number of police officers at the scene.

And another ...!

When tempers rose ...tongues loosened!

state legislative assembly yesterday.

The Police and non-uniformed Police personnels' behavior were reportely outrageous.

The pictures are testimony to the obnoxious presence of the FRU, Uniformed and plainclothes policemen.

Nasi Kandar shopAt a Nasi Kandar shop near the Democracy Tree, they nabbed anybody wearing black T-Shirts roughly and spilled curry dishes in the process. The Shopowner was ordered to close.

Those others, NGO members, including some YB's from PR with the Agong's pictures were also detained. A PAS supporter boldy holding the green moon flag was hustled off. In all these rumble-tumble, they let off an elderly couple who were fortunate enough to have had lunch before the Nasi Kandar was ordered closed for business.

For the morning of May 7th, Ipoh citizens and visitors were depressed by Police actions, as if imprinted with the idea and feeling of being in a Police State.

Information coming from Ipoh, by phone and SMS. Commentators are under siege, as some who went out for food would not be allowed back past Police blocks.

12:40pm - DUN Perak, if it can be called "Undangan" (Legislature), has resumed.

The Usurpers have by some means, snatching the mike, now installed a certain Ganesan, as the new Speaker. Sivakumar's mike has been disabled, most likely by public servants minding the audio system!

What is amazing is that they haven't thrown bananas around, as they did in Taiwan legislature!

12:50pm - PR DUN members now question validity of new Speaker, whose credential is "a public civil servant". (To be further clarified.)

A Speaker should correctly be from a member of the Dewan, having gained his place by being voted in a State Election.

1:00pm - Zambry Abdul Kadir, the other purported Menteri Besar, wass reported to be absent from 2nd Session of the day. Comments were passed that he might be further sending the situation into murkier territory.

Salahuddin Ayub, MP and PAS Youth ChiefKubang Krian MP, Salahuddin Ayuh, also PAS Youth Chief, was also arrested earlier, in the morning.

1:50pm - Speculation and suspicion have been cast by the public that Zambry Abdul Kadir's absence in the second part of the Day's Session is linked to the immanent address of Perak's Ruler, further embroiling what is already a dark state of affairs.

2:05pm - Meanwhile, outside the DUN only the FRU, Policemen and their riot vehicles are visible: a little like a state of emergency, where free men are not aloud to enjoy their usual freedom.

The Legitimate Government before crisis
2:20pm - Sounds from the Dewan verified a ruckus. Calls of "Bubar" (Dissolve) filled the air.

The Police have entered the Dewan!!! (Whatever happens to the Sargeant-At-Arms notion?) Has the Police broken rarified sanctity and sacrements of the Legislature/ House?

It appears that Ganesan is prevented from using the microphone. PR House members call for Police to leave the Dewan.

Speaker dragged offBN DUN members are attempting to remove the Speaker, Sivakumar by physical force but are prevented by PR House members who have surrounded him!

It looks like soon fists may fly!

2:20pm - The Speaker, Sivakumar has been physically removed from his seat, "dragged" out of the Dewan, aided by Police from outside, not the duly sanctioned security embodied by the Legislature.

2:59pm - Some 50 Mata-mata, Special Branch Police and Public Servants ganged up to push Sivakumar out from the Dewan. Raja Nazrin is reported to have come in and the "Public Employee" Ganesan has taken over.

Sivakumar apparently has been bundled into his car which then left the DUN Building.

After 3.00pm, I lost track of what happened. What seemed very odd immidiately are -

(1) A lawfully elected member of the State Assembly of Perak, in the position of the House Speaker, was today physically removed from the august Dewan Undangan Negeri Perak; the means, which should be provided under the Laws, of which the DUN Perak is the Legislature.

(2) A certain "Ganesan", not presented to the House as a lawfully elected representative, duly voted by the people of Perak, had been instated as the lawful Speaker, facilitating the process of the address by the RMP of Perak, Raja Nazrin.

No doubt in the ensuing days more will become clear which may foretell deeper problems in the execution of the State systems whose veracity and integrity are challenged and unduly met. Even more foreboding perhaps is how the economic gloom will further affect the situation with systems in disarray. This aptly reflects the national imbrioglio enveloping Malaysia, the nation.

The events today have not resulted in any productive or positive outcomes. Instead, things appear to worsen politically and constituionally, signs that the nation will face greater wastage of resources at the expense of the rakyat.

Thanks to friends in Ipoh for the information. Their involvement may hopefully not jeopardize their personal safety, as even now with the pervasive presence of the Police and Federal Reserve Unit, many have been said to be reluctant to venture out for fear of their safety from the unpredictable actions of the authorities.

It is hoped discussions will be generated from the events today, at anywhere else for a learning citizenry.

Information coming from Ipoh, by phone and SMS., some 300 meters from the DUN Building.

7:50am - Zambry Kadir was spotted driving into the DUN premises

8:45am - The following have been arrested:

# Air Keroh DAP ADUN KooPuai Tiong and 5 others for holding up Agong's picture

# Ampang KL ADUN Zuraidah Kamaruddin whilst making a statement in front of DUN building

# 6 more arrested holding Agong's picture

9:01am

# ADUN Teratai Selangor, Janice Lee arrested for displaying Agong's picture.

These spate of arrests are hopefully temporary detentions. If all of the ADUN expressing nationalism or national sentiments, and officially arrested it will be a sad state of affairs!

9:23am
# Looks like they got Zorro, too, unmasked, near the DAP Office! Councillor from Seberang Perai, Penang, Oon Neoh Aun, nabbed, too!

9:30am - Members of Parliament Lim Kit Siang and Kula (Ipoh Barah), invited to the DUN session have been denied entry to DUN.

They're going to Senam Police Station as those arrested were taken there.

A rough count made on site, gave a total of about 20 arrests before 10.00am!

9:50am The Speaker of the Dewan's Chair is reported to be rigged with odd things from the Bomoh! This is ridiculous, childish and hardly civilized acts!

10:08am - The Dewan Undangan Negeri Perak started at 10.00am, unconfirmed news abound, let's wait for further info!

Another site is also carrying Live Reports, check Anilnetto at http://anilnetto.com
10:25am - Shouts are heard coming from the Dewan - "Keluar!". Not identified which side is shouting at which! PR or BN? Reportedly uproarious and sounded like utter confusion!

10:35am - The Speaker Sivakumar has ordered 10 BN ADUNs to leave Dewan. They are standing their ground. 7 of the 10 had been earlier suspended by the Speaker, before this sitting whilst the 3 are the 2 PKR members who defected and 1 DAP lady member, HEE.

Zuraidah Kamaruddin

Some of those arrested - (L-R)
Zuraidah (ADUN), Janice Lee (ADUN), Zorro (Blogger)

11:00am - There has just been further chaos! Speaker went to see Raja Nazrin, Deputy Speaker snatched microphone and now it looks like a gangland fight in a Malaysian Legislature, the legal supreme authority in the State of Perak

11:15am - In the chaos, its difficult to discern legality and proper order in the DUN, but apparently, there appears to be a gross usurpation usurping of the power of the speaker! And ultimately to a CONSTITUTIONAL CHANGE of Government??? Some thing is grossly wrong!!!

The rightful Speaker, Sivakumar, went to see Raja Nazrin to accompany him home! That was when the scuttle for the mike took place! And because of that that the issue is settled?

12:40pm - DUN Perak, if it can be called "Undangan" (Legislature), has resumed.

The Usurpers have by some means, snatching the mike, now installed a certain Ganesan, as the new Speaker. Sivakumar's mike has been disabled, most likely by public servants minding the audio system!

PERAK : Will the Limbo rock?

All that citizens of Perak may really want is a bright new day tomorrow, 7th May. This would do just as well for other Malaysians to make any meaning to what is and should be an ordinary Malaysia day - just another Malaysia day, not 1 or 2 or '3Malaysia' day. Drop the prefix, many would growl!

There's nothing they can do about the loss of 30 years of Tin production. There might be something we could do about what is left and what's been gained.

DUN Perak
Our PM Najib Razak was busy in Sabah yesterday. He had bought a badly built Sabah Medical Center to be used for the ordinary Sabah Malaysians. It's curious whether Sabahans would have any better health with a badly build hospital. No doubt the wealthy Sabahan/UMO Owners who badly built it would continue to be healthy, after being bailed out. This money, some RM250 million (after payment of bad completed works-in-progress) might as well be used to buy anti H1N1 vaccines or at least to pay for all quarantine and prevention efforts. We'll need money for that, not for cronies who didn't do their jobs right.

So Malaysians would like a good ordinary and meaningful Malaysian Day tomorrow.

And this day tomorrow we hope would be a special good day. It should be, as in Ipoh tomorrow, genuinely concerned Malaysians will begin it with the Dawn Prayers, the "Subuh" prayers to be led by the Pakatan Rakyat members and supporters.

We hope too, that the ordinary Policemen who will be on duty tomorrow to do their dream job of quelling so-called "trouble-makers" will see very peaceful Malaysians out to express their minds of what's wrong with the State and country. For if the the same Policemen would do their Dawn Prayers, there should be no difference to the "real job" they have to do---ie to provide safety to Perak citizens.
