@Bersih 3.0 | Let's topple the Government

It's 50 years since Merdeka in 1963.

Malaysia is a consitutional monarchy and with a Parliament of a bicameral lower and upper house. And elections are consitutionally provided for.

When Mahathir Mohamad retired, his party was ruling and it still is. It seems unreal for Mahathir that that the government can change. The idea did not arise. There is only the government, UMNO or BN.

Well, too bad for Mahathir. The constitution says you can "topple" the government. Malaysians are calling for free and fair elections as consitutionally provided for and citizens want to topple the government in the forth coming elections.

Can you get any clearer than that?

If there's any truth in citizen accusation of the transgression UMNO/BN have committed, think about 50 years of ONE PARTY RULE!

How did they do it? In plain words ... by dictatorship! The Executive, Judiciary have plunderd the country and the process of laws have not worked to the maximum. Somethings worked but if we're that VISIONARY that is tantamount to one that values a small ineffectual part while the other is so huge and glaring it seems, is beyond your scope of vision.

Bersih 3.0 is clear - citizens want a new government and they want a fair and just means of toppling the present recalcitrant government and its leaders in the forth coming elections.

There are of course things you can't topple. You can't topple Gunung Tahan, Kinabalu or the Malaya Mountains in Kerala or the Himalayas at the world's roof. You climb mountains. When you reach the top of any mountain, there's only one way to go - down! You wonder if there are Malaysians buried in the Himalayas we haven't heard of.

Let's say this again to Mahathir Mohamad in no uncertain terms - WE WANT TO TOPPLE THE GOVERNMENT!

And it looks like we're well on the way there as citizen thoughts coalesce post Bersih 3.0.

Too bad Mahathir cannot topple the opposition. But UMNO/BN could without even trying!

Malaysian Election Commission | PAS Notice Embargo

In a separate report by Free Malaysia Today, Mohamad Sabu, was quoted as having said "no date" has been set to demand resignation of EC Chairman and Deputy, as PAS are only supporters of the Bersih movement. Berish's Co-Chair Datuk Ambiga stated then no subsequent rally has yet been considered and would continue to emphasize the irregularities in the electoral process.

We'll keep the Countdown as self reminder for any development!

PETALING JAYA: PAS deputy president, Mohamad Sabu, today did not rule out the possibility of another rally if top Election Commission (EC) officials do not resign immediately.

He was, neverthess, quick to add that the decision to hold another protest was solely up to electoral watchdog Bersih. He said that political parties were merely supporting the coalition of 84 NGOs under the Bersih umbrella which held its third rally on Saturday.

“What I can say is that should the EC top guns not resign, the next time, we [PAS] will mobilise one million people.

“If they [EC officials] are stubborn and refuse to step down, there may be another rally. But we will leave that for Bersih to decide.

We are merely political parties who support them,” said Mohamad Sabu, popularly known as Mat Sabu.

One of Bersih’s demands at Saturday’s rally was for the immediate resignation of EC chairman Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusoff and his deputy Wan Ahmad Wan Omar.

Bersih claims that the electoral roll is ridden with irregularities which will not guarantee free and fair elections.

It’s co-chairman S Ambiga said that no decision has been made over another rally, adding that the group will continue to highlight irregularities in the electoral process. Mat Sabu was speaking to the press this afternoon after sending a memorandum to the EC demanding the resignation of Abdul Aziz and Wan Ahmad.

The memorandum was accepted by a representative from the EC’s public relations office.

“They have fallen short from fulfilling their duties. They have not cleaned the electoral roll and now there is evidence that they are Umno members,” he said.

He was referring to PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution’s revelation last week that Abdul Aziz was a member of Umno’s Sri Ampang branch and Wan Ahmad a member of the Kubang Bunggor branch in Pasir Mas.

Both Abdul Aziz and Wan Ahmad responded to Saifuddin’s revelation, saying that they may have been registered as members decades ago but have remained inactive.

Mat Sabu, however, said that no definite time line was given for the duo to resign. When asked what action would the political parties take should the EC heads refuse to resign, Mat Sabu merely said, “We [political parties] will have to discuss the matter”.

@Bersih 3.0 | Accountability question

“...both the organisers and the state have equal responsibility to ensure peace and security. Yet in this case, the state imposed the entire burden on Bersih 2.0.

We discharged that burden fully and Bersih 2.0 had full control until tear gas was fired. Once that happened the burden shifted to the police to handle the situation that they had created. The responsibility became theirs. It must be noted that all the reported acts of violence that ensued came only after the tear gas was fired.”

@Bersih 3.0 | BBC | Who censored what?

Screenshot of BBC News bit on Bersih, Malaysia

I searched the BBC News on 28 evening and 29 April and saw the same image clip as screenshot today displayed above.

The following day the Youtube version of the videocast censored clip came in the mailbox and I put it up here.

Browsed BBC again just now at ..."news/world-asia-17879041"... and still it's the same as the screenshot above.

If I couldn't get today what was supposed to be on Bersih day 28 and further on 29 April from BBC themselves at their site, WHO IS CENSORING WHAT??? What would be the BBC's interests and all those decades of News before and after Merdeka? Astro has no interest in Malaysia except the monopoly it now has. The Youtube clip very professionally mastered of the censored BBC news videocast of 28 April is what civil society would provide as an an endearing contribution. Could BBC have enduring interests? Despite the official protest it has purportedly made to Astro? And which protest has not gone to open publication but only after being prodded by Sarawak Report?

UPDATE | CENSORSHIP BBC's News video

BBC's website is best viewed by Firefox. Google has problems handling BBC's audio/video plugins, as a result of which I was not able to view the clip, my browser being Chrome. I have long given up on IE, the slug crawler!

The following is a screenshot of the Bersih KL news video by BBC. It would have been fruitful had BBC put an advisory of their audio and video fits. - 2:17 PM 2/5/2012

@Bersih 3.0 | In the defence of breaking barricades

In passage with dignity;
in purpose without apology.

“The truth is that we all went there to break the law. A law devoid of fair play and justice, a law which is enforced to the detriment of ordinary citizens. The barricades blocking our march into Dataran Merdeka are the clearest and most tangible symbol of the government’s animosity to the ordinary public. It would be foolish to be there and not dismantle them...”

Citizen Security | How quickly we forget

28 April was a fine day. Sun was up and hopes flew high. By late afternoon it rained ... on dissenters against unfair election practices in Malaysia. Malaysian Police poured a hard rain of blows on citizens.

Tunku Aziz, Vice Chairman of DAP Malaysia, is trying very hard not to gloat ...that he was right. If only Malaysia took his wise counsel of his vehement opposition to Bersih 3. He could have stopped the fine weather on 28 April though it had rained hard on "politik jalan"(roadside/street politics) that the gracious and gentile Malaysians deeply frown on.

They say Malaysians "mudah lupa". Yes, we slam the car door closed and leave the keys in. Not all the time but some of the time. And you forget.

It was Magrib prayer time at Masjid Jamek on the eve of Bersih Day, when Siti Aishah, garbed in yellow Bersih T-shirt was preparing for prayer. The Police stopped her. The reason: she was wearing the yellow Bersih T-shirt.

We're still sarung stuck to the car door as far as governance, accountability and transparency go.

In the Royal Commission to Enhance the Operation and Management of the Royal Malaysia Police of 4th February, 2004, the dose of reforms were spelt out in no uncertain terms. But Malaysia dozed off.

Among the many weaknesses, the principal one was Police Brutality and corruption. But we forgot.

Perhaps Tunku Aziz might like to reMEMBER? It doesn't matter if he wishes to reMEMBER with DAP or UMNO. Or disMEMBER from whatever and whoever. Perhaps, by so doing he might have sober recall.

@Bersih 3.0 | The Malaysian Police, The LEGAL AUTHORITY

The following 4 video clips illustrate how the newly REBRANDED PDRM, the Malaysian Police or Blue Tigers, exhibit their most exemplary professional conduct when it comes to the crux.

During the tenure of Office of Tun Abdullah, there was Parliamentary Commission with the noblest of intentions and embedded with the maximum values. The recommendations came to nothing - nada - nyet! And so in its place is the REBRANDED PDRM, The Blue Tigers on a show of their best. We must be assured that dissent for Tunku Aziz, the Vice Chairman of DAP is fully justified when he declared his strong disapproval of Bersih 3.0. Rais Yatem had concurred or initially declared that Bersih 3.0 is "dirty"
