Malaysia's Economic Ills and Reforms | Let's play cops and robbers

The game is on. The shrill of the challenge is heard - Malaysia may sink. Who called that? The BN or P? The PR or reforms minded. But in no uncertain terms, Idris with his Jala, declared - "Malaysia may go bankrput!" There was a catch - "only if we don't scrap subsidies!" I did liberally left comments in a number of places. I've called the BN, decadent. I've said we'd be Greek and Gone. The last was we might be served bubur soon.

You know before Raya and during the fasting month they dish out Bubur Lambuk. Some people don't stand in line because of empty pockets but because of the idea of Bubur Lambuk. Maybe it's the idea of not donating for the handout but revelling in the idea of having the bubur, feeling ecstatic and still don't have to pay. That really is like making those with empty pockets eat the bubur and getting a kick out of it. So, would they serve Bubur Greek? They would, if we don't stop them.

Let's play cops and robbers or hide and seek. Voters, us, or reforms bias citizens nearly almost always are parents in hide and seek. So now Najib, Idris and his other brothers will hide. And we'll have to seek. What's the pay-off? Really, I'm not quite sure. You have kids, so do I. The results aren't always what we expect but we make do as parents.

But what's the postion of our country now? Here's an excerpt of the state of affairs that is very much like our country.

This paper has three objectives developed in three sections.

First, in Section II we use cross-section empirical analysis to demonstrate that stunted institutional development—a catch-all for a range of related pathologies, including corruption, weak governance, rentseeking, plunder, etc--is a problem intrinsic to countries that own natural resources such as oil or minerals. The resulting drag on long-run growth from having resources can be substantial.

Second, in Section II we establish that "*****"’s poor economic performance stems largely from having wasted its resource income.

Finally, in Section IV we propose a solution for "*****" to accelerate institutional change, which would involve distributing the bulk of the oil revenues directly to the people. In the absence of measures to improve the quality of institutions and avoid the problems created by oil rents, we remain deeply pessimistic about "*****" ’s long-run prospects. The final section concludes II.

What country is that? You guess. I'll reveal what country it is in the comments or posts! What are you suppose to do? Play cops and robbers or hide and seek!

If you think I'm kidding, mull the whole thing over again! Am I wrong? Does it matter? Or doesn't it?

["...Malaysia can be a developed nation by 2020, if the country registers a continuous six per cent annual growth, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

"To achieve this goal, we need to enhance economic growth. We must achieve the six per cent annual growth and God willing, by 2020, we can achieve the status of a developed nation," he said at the closing ceremony of the Bumiputera Economic Congress: New Economic Model 2010, here Saturday...." - Bernama]

Yes, "IF". In fact in 2017, we can be a developed nations status, on condition there is an "IF". Frankly, 2020 means nothing to me "IF" we're gonna stay substantially as we are. Models change and they age, too!

The way things are going 6% may not be enough without real bases. Even 10% might not be enough. China has to make do with single digits now.

If BN as of now has not substantially shown any will to change, 2020 or 2050 means nothing.

On the subsidy removal open day at KLCC, Idris Jala presented a picture of gloom and doom for the nation - if subsidy is not removed! He presented that the nation's debt increased from RM90 billion in 1997 to over RM407 billion in 2010!
What do you say Najis, how on one hand the economy is GROWING and the nation is also GROWING steadily in debts?

Malaysia will be bankrupt in 2019, but to gain developed status a year later, huh? Play on Idris Jala!

The Greek tragedy may soon be followed by Ireland while New Zealand, has racked up a public and private debt of 90% of GDP.

It looks like a hard rains gonna fall. Hercules wouldn't be able to tahan the sky from falling!

Penny pinching from now while we bite the bullet!

Yeah vote BN to hasten Malaysia's bankruptcy!

Malaysia – a failed nation after 53 years of blatant corruption, mismanagement, unnecessary over-spending and lack of accountability at the hands of an irresponsible corrupt BN regime!

while roti Jala is trying to con us that it is OUR burden to shoulder the cuts in subsidies, he is quiet on the leakages and evaporations of our $$$ while in the hands of this Baron robber govt.
If we play hide n seek, I am sure many Msian brains n $$$ will run away so there's no need for the gomen to seek except maybe go harakiri itself.

Najib squandered our money on APCO to gain credibility. Neither Malaysians nor other nationals believe BN. That's tough but they chose it for us, against our wishes.

Question! Should a General Election settle all that? Who has credibility? Who can be believed to fulfill their pledges?

["...Hence, hide-and-seek is not a mere pastime but a true game. At the social level it is a battle of wits, and is most satisfying when the Adult of each player does his best; at the psychological level, however, it is set up like compulsive gambling, in which White's Adult has to lose in order for his child to win. Not being caught is actually the antithesis. Among older children, one who finds an insoluble hiding place is regarded as not being a good sport, since he has spoiled the game. He has eliminated the Child element and turned the whole thing into and Adult procedure. He is no longer playing for fun. He is in the same class as the owner of a casino, or some professional criminals, who are really out for money rather than sport...."] - Eric Berne

angela,

Everyone plays life games. This could be what they're playing.

Vincent or his supporters or backers now can play their usual game, now that they've got the betting licence!

If they're that good, they could be better at other more productive and constructive games where more will benefit and which more will have money to buy what they can sell. I wouldn't know what game that will be then! ;))

Bottom line is .... Bn govt under dUMNO is completely irresponsible. They squandered, stole and sold everything that was not 'air-tight and
anchored firmly on'. They should commit harakiri or wait to be booted out.

Salak said...

"Harakiri" is not a game attribute! Well, maybe it is.

Then perhaps Malaysians can play a new game! ;))

Some people are sick of playing marbles! :))
