The report "A Wider Context of Sexual Exploitation of Penan Women and Girls in the Ulu Baram, Sarawak, Malaysia" has just been released. It presents a fuller picture of the problem and the clear and specific measures of the what Malaysia should do next to rectify the failures and neglect of the BN Government, specifically the Government of Sarawak under the leadership of Datuk Patinggi Abdul Taib Mahmud. All should read it and all can try and ponder at the sombre prospect of not immediately acting on the recommendations.

Al Jazeera really went for dirt under their nails for that video. Good one though!
Looks like the Peanan leaders and the Bn govt has miserably failed these natives ..the true bumiputras, yet leading wretched lives!
They will not only lose their way of life - food, water, trees and shelter but everything including their cawat!
They have to be taught to demand from this corrupt gomen, better quality of life that's rightly due to them - roads/bridges, education, clean water and electricity.
Next General Election they must say 'NO to BN', even if they promise to bring down the moon!
The recommendations I browsed over quickly, which I'll dwell on later have depth and breadth and very affirmative on essence and structure.
But there are only 20,000 or so of Penans and the problems associated with them affect THE country. Remember someone said ... no man is an island?

At such dire times like this, it is so achingly sad, the Penans have no one to turn to. These are the very bumiputras who have been sidelined, living in abject poverty and becomming the forgotten ones. Looks like this is the end of their culture.
The Penans won't die away. They would if you allow alcoholism to seige them as happened with some Red Indian tribes in US.
They have their folk lore and wisdom and some form of faith. One is called "Molong".
It means -
take as you need, give back in heed.
They have better insight long before Al Gore thought of global warming. Do you think Al Gore might have masqueraded as Bruno Manser? ;)
