Sarawak media blackout | fuse blew on Taib Report

Taib's billions: Sarawak dailies gagged
|SUN, 04 JUL 2010 08:00 | By Roselind Jarrow | Free Malaysia Today |

KUCHING: Owners and editors of newspapers in the state have been told to refrain from publishing reports regarding properties worth billions of ringgit allegedly owned by Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud and his family.

The directive from the CM's department came in the wake of a number of reports lodged with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Agency, urging it to investigate Taib’s properties.

The directive was conveyed late this week to the owners and editors through the state department of information.

The directive also told the editors not to send reporters to cover any press conferences by PKR in the state, apparently in retaliation against the party’s youth wing for lodging a report with the MACC over Taib's wealth.

Contacted today, several editors declined to comment on the directive.

However group editor of The Borneo Post and Utusan Borneo Jimmy Adit said that he heard about the directive from his colleagues, but denied receiving it personally.

“How can they stop us publishing a PKR statement if it is a good statement, not liable or inflammatory?

“They cannot simply issue a directive like that,” he said.

Three MACC reports have so far been lodged against Taib after a news portal, The Sarawak Report, carried articles claiming that Taib and his family owned overseas properties worth billions of ringgit.

His daughter Jamilah is said to head their business empire in Canada, England and Australia.

Several blogs and websites have been highlighting the reports which Taib's party Parti Pesaka Bumiputra Bersatu has described as “lies”.

The party has set up a media unit to closely monitor these reports in the blogs and websites and to issue statements to counter the lies. -

The Borneo Post is part of the KTS Group, owned largely by the father of Robert Lau, the BN Candidate in the Sibu By Election on June 16. Curious that Kuching Editors kept mum, not even offering a safe statement, save for The Borneo Post's Jimmy Adit.

The Borneo Post was once prohibited for subscription by Sarawak Civil Service for some reason or other.

Blede spineless scums of the earth colloborating with the thieves, now their tongues are also gone!

To those in Borneo Post and all Sarawak dailies, here's what I picked up from another blog - Zorro-unmasked. Please read and think about it....

"Some people have so much respect for their superiors they have none left for themselves" - Peter McArthur

Now Can you hold your heads up and look your children, family and friends in the face after what you just did - colloborating with the thieves instead of exposing them? Where's dignity and self-worth?
Shame on YOU!

Which McArthur is this? The soldier?

It's about time the push might return a shove! :-))

It took so long for Malaysia, enchanted by, of all things, lofty words and crazy jingles. The jingles have lost their sting and Najib is getting cynical of his own men, scoring their own goals! haha! :-))

In this day of electronic age, 'gag-hold/orders' by corrupt government on their newspapers won't work anymore!
Their credibility is at stake for the world to see.

They better hope and pray Pakatan Rakyat wont make it fast to Putra Jaya come GE-13 otherwise...

Yeah! I think they're praying. Doubt if the hipopotamus can prostrate and get up!

Maybe 40 Ulamus/Hipolamas can prop them up! ha! :-))

Some prayer that would be!

Hey! The Sarawak Tribune is back! Only this time it returned as a slave! :-))

The ampu came back with a declaration of a Local Public Intellectual's column. He's ampuing a praise for the chewed up "1Malaysia" jingle!

Today Najib's Kerisman-cousin calls to prepare for general election. Are we to believe it? When there's so much discord and flip-flops within UMNO?

Again, why not? It's possible when they have done so much damage to Pakatan Rakyat. They power-grabbed Perak last year. This year messed up PKR by feeding on kataks(originally dropped from dumno dumpster) to hop, then made a big cry on the Allah issue to rile up PAS but fortunately when that didn't work pigs and cow heads emerged!

I must say it was most admireable on part of PAS leadership to practise patience and restrain that successfully prevented their members from falling into that dumno's evil trap.

The recent problems of Aduns/MPs in PKR Selangor though cannot be solely blamed on dumno, it was obvious much was played up by their controlled tv and print media esp The Star that had a field day trying to create further havoc, to pit one against the other to cause animosity between Azmin Ali and MB Khalid supporters.

But one thing for sure, though we were not hesitant to whack Anwar left, right and center for his inability to control and discipline his lot of PKR monkeys, it does not mean we will reject Pakatan Rakyat in favour of BN come GE-13. We will be real dumb to do that after suffering and waiting for 53 years?

So what's next in their pipeline? ..brand Anwar a "traitor" for financing a fellow Malaysian friend and hero Raja Petra whom they are quick to call him a 'fugitive?

Today in Pekan, Najib said: "Don't trust Raja Petra!"
- Why, what is it that he's afraid of RPK? ...Altantuya?

So he thinks we trust him instead? He must be nuts!!!!

Tell him we already read Jungle Book ! :-))

There's a kind of frenzy in blogosphere on GE with Sarawak at the same time, currently. But as far as PR is concerned, the top leadership is big enough to accept criticism as they can afford to unlike BN who can only afford something with our money. They don't have rakyat's trust any more.

Both Khalid and Azmin were very guarded in what they said, and esp Khalid demonstrated much confidence, something not seen from any BN people form since when. You're right about PAS. Perseverence shines as their virtue, affirming unrelenting struggle for progressive nation building. They have a lot more to demonstrate when their engineers, economists, lawyers and tech people phase in.

No how to tell kampung folks this?

dumno have done so much shit they just cannot get out of ANY spin they dish out. anyone with an iota of brain can see through it. friends who are helping pakatan, need to go down to the rural folks n explain in as simple terms, the $ and cents of their wretched livestyles where rightfully they should be living in relative comfort after so many years of bn dumno rule.
