'Happy Holidays' to all you guys and a Happy New Year! 'Merry Christmas' to those who are celebrating the birth of Christ.

To those who are thinking of celebrating the Winter Solstice (the longest night) – no winter in Malaysia, so don’t celebrate.

“Don't brood and enjoy the Christmas season and festivities…….Time will heal things. You are not alone …... Sometimes you lose, sometimes you win ….” JONG

Jong,

Where have you been all my life??

And what have you done
Another year over
And a new one just begun
And so happy Christmas

And so this is Xmas
For weak and for strong
For rich and the poor ones
The world is so wrong
And so happy Xmas
For black and for white
For yellow and red ones
Let's stop all the fight

Woh! You're getting sentimental on a pre Christmas day. You'll have to do more than that to serenade Jong. It seems she ate up all the pomelos in the orchard!

I would like a fire-eating dragon on the 12th Day of Christmas to sing Najib and the goons' pants off.

Maybe shrek will join me for a -

JONG

"Sad Movie" hit the airwaves when I was in Form Four (I think). I was still a virgin. At that age Salak already lost his because of all that swinging from tree to tree in the jungle of Sarawak.

It really made us all sad even though we were not. I had my first crush about that time. My first crush was with my sister’s classmate who had two of her front teeth missing.

Why must I be a teenager in love??

Anonymous said...

Mr. Bean,

I hate to burst your bubble but your choice of songs reveal your age. :-) Having said that, I must concede that you must be a romantic man to think of all these songs *grin* or maybe it is the snow falling on the sidewalks and you must be reminiscing about your toothless first love.
*grin and giggle*.

Anyway, thanks a lot Mr. Bean for sharing those lovely songs with us on X'mas eve.

Now back to reality...

Salak, I can imagine you breathing fire and eunuchizing a few persons :-).

Jong,

Time for us to buy fire-proof vests LOL!

[The Secret of the Grain (2007) NYT Critics' Pick

Review Summary

Slimane Beiji, the sad, still center of “The Secret of the Grain,” Abdellatif Kechiche’s bustling and brilliant new film, might be described as an accidental patriarch. A stubborn, taciturn immigrant from Tunisia, Slimane (Habib Boufares) has spent 35 years working in the shipyards of Sète, a rough little French port city on the Mediterranean coast. The other members of his large, cantankerous family — his former wife, Souad (Bouraouïa Marzouk), and their assorted children and grandchildren — live mostly in a battered high-rise housing project. Slimane, meanwhile, keeps a modest room in the blue-collar hotel run by his lover, Latifa (Hatika Karaoui), and her 20-year-old daughter, Rym (the amazing Hafsia Herzi), on whom he dotes as if she were his own. The chief token of his benevolence is the fish Slimane collects from his fisherman buddies and dutifully delivers on his motorbike to the important women in his life: Souad; his older daughter, Karima (Faridah Benkhetache); and Latifa. Their freezers are overflowing with the mullet that is, in Tunisian tradition, served with couscous, the grain of this film’s title. The richness of “The Secret of the Grain” lies in the close, tireless, enthusiastic attention it pays to the most mundane daily tasks, especially those involving food. — A. O. Here’s to Laura (not Paula, sorry). That used to be Jong’s first name until she changed to Pam (short for pomelo).

Tell Laura I love her. Tell Laura I need her. Tell Laura not to cry. My love for her will never die .

Here’s how I would sing the same song for Jong aka Laura (you gotta listen to this Billy Connolly song, Jong)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6BFrVfkz0Q&feature=related

In this case, it was Laura who got thrown under the bus …. literally!! Main street was not a pretty sight. There were bits of Laura (Paula) everywhere.

Salak, thanks. No time for movies. Not on Christmas day. My daughter-in-law invited me to her house for Christmas dinner which is tonight).

It is a fallacy that women have more issues than men. Obviously, some men love anonymity for a deeper sense of security. Take Mr.Bean for instance...he can ask me to sit in the back seat of his Morris Minor and later have no qualms about having delicious images of bits of Laura(Paula) everywhere hehe...

So we have seen half of Salak's face but we have not seen the others. Are you guys SO HANDSOME that you fear we ladies here will fall prostrate at your feet and pay homage to you and fight for a place in your harem?

So, to dispel all these silly notions mentioned here, pray show us your faces that we can assign the name to the face and better communicate with you :)

That would truly be such a lovely X'mas gift, no?

Merry X'mas!

I guess Jong is right after all - I must applaud you for being considerate in not shocking us with your imposing and scary demeanor :-)

Jong,

Mr.Bean has a predictable pattern of behavior.

When under attack, he has a tendency to :

a) evade the issue by showing no response
b) circumvigate other peripheral issues
c) claim to be either eating, cooking or about to do either chores

And after a few more comments, he emerges with a red herring...

So Mr. Bean, prove me wrong at all counts :-)....

cheers

Salak,

No, I'm not a Christian. I'm more into Buddhism, the Buddha's philosophical teachings.

You know Salak, I have a 10 year old durian tree in my back compound and it has a Christmas tree tiangular shape, stands 25 feet tall. It has never bear fruit but I don't mind, just love the different shades of greens. I was just thinking, one day I'll get it lighted up just for kicks to have the biggest Christmas tree around, ....syiok!

Salak said...

Woh! 10-year? Well, you should have had some first fruits lah! But depends on seedling. It's a pride to have one, Jong! Really!

You should check with a nursery how they might prune it correctly! Or get advice on fertilising it. That's a life you have there! One whole durian tree!

With all the experience I have had in stuffing (in the bank seat of my old Morris Minor), stuffing a turkey for Jong wouldn’t be too difficult.

Salak said...

Oh no, not that one, Bean!

Salak said...

It was so hilarious lah! The whole house roared! :D

Anonymous said...

Salak,

I don't prune it, just leave it to grow naturally and I like its triangular shape, so pleasing to the eyes with its different shades of green.

During the early years I tried all sorts of fertilisers on advice of my two agronomist friends but nothing worked. Guess like humans, some are barren? :D

Most important it's a healthy plant and I'm contented.

Anonymous said...

Mr. Bean,

Stuffing a turkey is easy job even for kiddos!

1. Tying the legs together keeps the inside moist.

2: Smother the butter all over the breasts. Add the seasoning etc!

3. Stuff the chestnuts etc up between the legs as far as it will go.

4. You'll know it's ready when it pops up.

Jong,

I support your stand. We have to take care of our plants with tender loving care - then it will flourish.

Salak,

Yup. Pruning is important too as well as fertilizers and the right soil.

Salak said...

Jong,

You satu macam! You should have had two trees! So you'll have cross pollination! You won't get any fruits that way?

Maybe I should put a picture of me on the tree, hehe! :D

Then I won't have my hand over my mouth as in the picture! hahaha! :D

Anonymous said...

You guys don’t make fun of my old Morris Minor! I have had Porshe, Mustang and Lamborghini and sold all to Old Geezer of DJ Blog fame.

Ask my Jong why I needed to use the old Morris Minor on dates with her! This is in recognition of her skills as a contortionist.

Anonymous said...

My neighbour has two plants, huge and they do bear fruits but I understand 7 out of 10 fruits are uneatable. :D

— A. O. Sleepin’ already???

Hi hon,

I’ll let this song by Paul Anka speak for me.

I don't like to sleep alone
Stay with me, don't go
Talk with me for just a while
So much of you to get to know
Reaching out touching you
Leaving all the worries far behind
Loving you the way I do
My mouth on yours and yours on mine
Marry me, let me live with you
Nothing's wrong and love is right

Like a man said in his song
"Help me make it through the night"
Loneliness can get you down
When you get to thinkin' no one cares
Lean on me
(And I'll lean on you)
Together we will see it through

No, I don't like to sleep alone
It's sad to think some folks do
No, I don't like to sleep alone
No one does
Do you

(I don't like to sleep alone)
No one does
Do you

Jong,

I sensed that your friend Paula is overprotective of you. I believe she has taken a fancy to you for some time now. Perhaps even she may not have realized it. But you, me and your friend Paul, to be in the back seat of any car is a daunting task even for Old Geezer to figure out.

Not to worry. You’re not alone. This was Shrek when he was singing at Merlin Disco in the 80s.

Merry Christmas Daffy Duck, you sure are lively this Christmas!

Yes, nobody is perfect so let's just do the best we can and in the spirit of giving, I wish you and your friends straight from the heart - abundance.

It's also a day for reflection, on things we need to do and must do, and let's be reminded of the following:

(a) If you want something you never had, do something you have never done.

(b) Don't go the way life takes you, take the life the way you go.

(c) You are born to live and not living because you are born.

Thank you Bean for that Paul Anka's lovely piece, melt me it did! :D

Why soo jealous over Paula's protectiveness, wannnn? Guess she'd do the same for Salak too. Paula needs friends and emotional support as a result of her harrowing experience with MIB and we were among the firsts to be there for her and being her goodself, Paula's overwhelmed and very appreciative of my genuine support and I'm not used to hiding behind Afghan veils.

Shrek,

I have not forgotten your query on the Perak State government's purchase of Toyota Camry cars for its State Assemblymen. What is so wrong about that when the national car Proton is so unreliable and if money is to be spent why should it not be spent on quality? Camrys are good cars, not too expensive yet reliable. How come no one questioned or complained when those UMNO buggers spent tax-payers money on mercedes before? They see themselves as the 'mafia lords' and are not obliged to explain their purchase and could never tolerate being questioned. They did what they like for 51 years.

The mainstream media obviously had played a big part, played up the issue and harp on it on behalf of their political masters to create animosity and to divide and rule.

Tajol Rosli may seem "ok" but never let down your guards, he is not an angel! Desperate politicians do desperate things.

Let me tell you of my experience some years back when Proton Perdana 2.0 was first introduced and came to the market. I was excited, thought wow the price is good and it's top of the Proton range, why not. So I placed a booking. Waited for 3 months and still no news of getting my car. Each time I contacted them, they gave me that arrogant replies - that I just needed to wait for my turn(!!) Damnit my money lah. I had paid my downpayment so had to patiently wait. Then after 3 months, I got news that those models sold were on recall back to workshop. Panic-strikened, I opted for the next model - Wira 1.8cc(limited Edition). It was good, fantastic pickup but I had problem with its doors, remote-control windows failing me and falling apart within the first 2 years! Got so fedup and sold it off! This is Proton Mahahtir for you!

You expect the PR government to support it? The Malaysian rakyat has been made suckers for far too long. Proton should just close down!

Anonymous said...

There's a saying among former Proton car owners - "Once a Proton, never a Proton!"

Anonymous said...

Thanks Jong
I had rented several Perdana when working and visiting Malaysia and never had problems like you described. Can't drive fast as traffic always jammed up and roads conditions don't permit tho. The V6 was great comparable to any import here. But I guess it doesn't take the punishment.

Salak said...

Hi shrek,

Jong's suggestion seems to be a major way out.

What is more apparent is, despite the gemilang terbilang hype it is a mirror of the techie side of Malaysia: there's only a small market for quality products.

The airheads in Proton will rationalise that since we can't pay for quality, we can't improve support sector for parts, let's keep on stealing from the rakyat!

Of course, if we change the government, the services support plus parts manufacturers will have to sing different lagu. But the lead time for change can be planned even right now - running through all economic sectors.

I hope we wont run through those hypes before about "Q" this and that "Risk Management" this and that, thinking out of the "box" this and that! Everybody just got boxed out while the goons make easy money stealing!

Anonymous said...

Salak

Malaysia needs stronger consumer protection laws, lemon laws and large punitive damage awards. They will only understand when it hits their pocketbooks.

But the tidak apa attitude, and no problem semuanya beres and bisa diurus pak is causing most of the problems. Malaysians should not have to take all this crap from Proton or any other manufacturer.

Salak said...

[Malaysians should not have to take all this crap from Proton or any other manufacturer. shrek]

Well, shrek, not ever! Not from anyone! Not even the PR Gomen I want for the change. Otherwise, otherwise we might as well create our own country! I'm not joking! We could still find a piece of land somewhere nobody wants. North Pole is too cold. It'll shrink your balls off!

What's a country without its people? In any case land grab is so bad, they're using it to plant food but not for us, others!

Hey this is Christmas. You guys are supposed to talk inter-faith issues!

Like what Prophet Abraham brings to the table for all the three great religions. Judaism, Christianity and Islam share the same prophets - except that the Jews, after 1,000 years are still waiting for their Messiah.

Buddhism and Hinduism and Confucianism pre-date CHristianity and Islam. These are Eastern philosophies and not religions. Buddha and Confucious didn't claim themselves to be anything more than mortals. India and China had their civilizations long before Europe had theirs. Now with India and China regaining their economic stature and in the field of international relations it has come back one full circle.

Hello everyone

WOW! I am famous I see. On my birthday, someone has declared me to be a lesbian. Amazing! First I was taken by MIB. Now, supposed to have an affinity for the same gender.

Well to all the lesbos out there, I am so sorry to have to declare that I am very straight.

I LOVE MEN and I also LOVE JONG but as a sister.

Jong is one of the FINEST women I have ever met in my life.

When I was down and out, she was one of the two ladies in this world who reached out to me. And she is the ONLY lady in this world who has been helping me to find my feet back on the ground after my arrest.

Because of my appreciation for her, for who she is and what she has done for me, I dedicated a post to her (as well as to 6 others) in my blog here:

jong this is for you

My life is richer because of Jong. I am stronger because of Jong. When I had to go for my bail hearing on Nov 28th, Jong drove on her own all the way from Ipoh to be with me. Now if that is not a friend, who is?

For all she has done for me, I will always remember. She is like the mother I had. Strong, fearless, firm, brave, intelligent and so much more and her husband and family are blessed to have her. We are blessed to call her friend. I have tears in my eyes as I write this. And why? Because she has touched my life in so many ways.

And so now Mr Bean asks if I have anything to raise.

Yes, I do.

I want to raise the fact that when friends left me, when some relatives deserted me, who was there? Very few. JONG WAS THERE.

This is about friendship and love. Only people with a heart can understand this without twisting something beautiful into something that is warped.

Jong is my friend for a reason, for a season.

And I pray she will be my friend for all seasons of my life.

Thank you Jong....

Hugs to you and to all who stepped forward and stood up for me when I was down and crushed.

Because of you guys, yes.

I CAN RAISE MY VOICE AND PROCLAIM - I AM WOMAN (STRAIGHT ONE) HEAR ME ROAR!!!

I will not be trampled or misunderstood by people and even if I am, I will still love them, accept them and know that everyone is different and we cannot force people to believe in what we believe. The time will come when truth is revealed.

For me, I just want to raise one thing.

Jong is a fine woman and I love her as I would a sister and a friend.

cheers

Hey Bean,

We all know you were defeated by Paula, you don't have to be so cruel by suggesting she's lesbian. You are a bad loser.
Earlier I thought you were suggestion I could be the lesbian!

Anonymous said...

oops, should read: "suggesting"

Anonymous said...

Hey Paula,

You don't have to take Bean seriously. He's just being naughty and mischievous. Through my years of interaction with him in other blogs, I have come to know that's his style - to grind you to pulp and get the best of you for his 'enjoyment'. You can say he is somewhat a "saddest"!
Stupid girl, don't shed tears over this silly Bean. Smile my dear, all done in jest.

Mr Bean,
See what you have done? Big bully! If I am like Paula, I would have cried a thousand times, but no I will not be bullied. I always fight back and when I leave a "fight" it means I have given up on you. But Mr Bean, in you there is still HOPE. Please don't make Paula cry, do the necessary and I know you didn't mean what you said about her being a lesbian. Over to you roger!

Anonymous said...

Paula,

Thanks for all your kind words about me. I think that hat is a lil too big for my head. I was just doing what needed to be done and would have done the same for anyone in trouble. I have been branded a "kaypoe"(busybody) ever too often already until it's numb on me. I don't care what people say and I don't see I need to explain what I do as long as my conscience is clear but one thing for sure, you will know when my arrows come for you and I never stab you on the back.

Hey Happy Birthday! Didn't know it's today? Let's call for celebration this saturday!

Anonymous said...

Jong et al,

I cried while writing the post NOT because I felt intimidated by Mr. Bean. My training in the police station and the aftermath in the comfort of my house crying in despair has toughened me. For that, I must thank the MIB :-).

I cried in memory of all I went through.I cried because Jong has touched my life and helped me to become MUCH stronger and not to be the wimp I used to be. And I am not the least intimidated by Mr. Bean because I also teased him.

But I am concerned because JERK from the other blog could be swinging here to read Salak's blog and I don't want that goon to read and laugh about this and cackle all the way to Cik Cun or whoever's parlour for tea.

So Mr. Bean, I bear you no grudges...it is all in good fun and jest but this one about Jong I have to make a stand. No worries ok?

Jong,

Thanks for being a sweetheart. I love to banter with Mr. Bean and will continue to fight tooth and nail hehehe!

cheers

For those who did not see the post I wrote, here it is:

JONG - This One's For You!

Her name is Jong,
I haven't known her for that long.

But this I know,
On her face there's a glow.

That shows clearly to me,
She's a woman who's not only pretty.

She's a lady with grit and mirth,
Filled with wisdom from heaven above.

Such a zeal for life she displays,
Undaunted, she presses on without delay.

Always ready to help those in need,
Without considering colour or creed.

She left behind a mark in my heart,
Thoughts of Jong from me will never depart.

For all that you have shown to me and taught me and all that you are - thanks Jong! I appreciate you and what you stand for and know that you are a woman of substance!

On a more serious note and on the issue of homosexuality – gays and lesbians – we have Genesis 9:7 “"As for you, be fruitful and multiply; Populate the earth abundantly and multiply in it."

We’re still suffering from that First Sin of Adam and Eve.

But I would never use the word ‘lesbos’ because it is derogatory. You guys pride yourself as human rights activists but here you are referring to lesbians in derogatory terms! It sickens me.

Anonymous said...

"Well to all the lesbos out there, I am so sorry to have to declare that I am very straight." Paula

This is disgusting to read!

Anonymous said...

Bean

Words are labels. Remember the cookie and dog biscuit example. In a class a professor brought some coolies and gave them to the students. everyone ate them and said they were nice. After that the professor said they were dog biscuits, all the students threw up.

Gays and lesbians are gods creation and deserve a place in this world. They chose the alternative lifestyles despite all the warnings and examples in the divine books. It's their choice but we should not look down on them. Most of the talented people are gays or lesbians. The list is endless.

We can always distance ourself if we don't agree with their lifestyles. Who are we to judge them.

Anonymous said...

That's right, Shrek

And who is this Paula to regard them with disdain, contempt for their choice in their sexual preferences and sexual orientation.

When you use 'lesbos' instead of lesbians, 'homo' instead of gays, it is that classic Freudian slip at work.

Not being able to recognise it for what it is i.e. a human rights issue, is one thing. But for it to come out of someone who sees herself as a human rights activist is another.

I find that disgusting to say the least.

Anonymous said...

Mr. Bean,

You are very low to MISUNDERSTAND my statement. You do not have the grace and elegance to apologize for ACCUSING ME OF BEING INTERESTED IN JONG BUT YOU HAVE THE AUDACITY OF ACCUSING ME OF BEING HOMOPHOBIC!!!!

The only reason I made that statement was because you are stirring interest in CYBERSPACE about ME BEING GAY!!! And I would NOT want to disappoint any lesbian if they were to make overtures to me.

Obviously, you practise double standards. It is ok for you to hit at people but when they make their defence, as I already predicted earlier on Dec 24th, YOU CIRCUMVIGATE THE PERIPHERAL ISSUES WITHOUT ADDRESSING THE MAIN ISSUE WHICH IS THE FACT THAT YOU ACCUSED ME OF HAVING LESBIAN INCLINATIONS AT JONG AND THAT IS SO LOW AND I NEVER THOUGHT THAT YOU COULD BE LOWER THAN THAT BY ACCUSING ME OF BEING HOMOPHOBIC!!!!!!

Well, for your information, I AM not HOMOPHOBIC!!!! But, lesbians have made passes at me in Castro, San Francisco and even in Europe.

Many of my best friends are gay and even my relatives. I have been regarded by them as a FAG HAG. And for your information, "lesbo" is not a derogatory term. I should know because I have many gay and lesbian friends.

You have the freedom to hit out at others and yet when we defend ourselves, you do not see the value of HUMANITY OF FORGIVENESS but you have the AUDACITY to launch other attacks!!!

HOW DISGUSTING CAN YOU GET TO TALK ABOUT HUMAN RIGHTS WHEN YOU SO HIGHHANDEDLY PARADE AND STRUT AROUND AS IF YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO DECLARE WHO IS RIGHT AND WHO IS WRONG

At least, on MY part, I did declare to the world that I do not have issues with you. Obviously, you have unresolved issues and your pride prevents you from seeing reality as it is.

You have called me FEMINIST and LESBIAN and for an erudite person like you, it seems this practise of name calling is second nature to you.

I have not called you by any names and this is the FIRST and LAST time I will address this issue.

I have better things to do than to indulge in such trivial childish/immature and lOW attacks of the demeaning form.

Goodbye.

Such a pity that Salak's nice blog and this space has to be polluted by such attacks.

I was watching Miss America 2008 last night, wow aren't they all impressive tall shanks! My favourite Miss New Jersey dropped out, thought she had a good chance!

And how did Miss Texas get that title? Well I guess, one man's meat is another's poison.

Salak said...

Let me have the last word on this.

Paula has expressed herself and Shrek had done a good one.

Bean,

In New York, if you're there, things are different. The whole of the US has a wide spectrum of issues, religion not excluded. Nor is different sexuality. Not 'everyone' in the US would take it as you would nor would every Malaysians. If you could empathize with lesbians very well that would be great. But if you could do that, then it means you could then as well equally do so for those who have different views on it. Activism in all its groups would cover very many people - the whole spectrum of humanity.

If enlightenment on issues sexual and ethical is very pervasive in NY that's fine. But how far have we moved when all that Fleet Street did was to seriously set back general global prospeity now admittedly moaned by many as simple greed? If roving bandits have now domesticated lets look at other peripheral issues in a manner conducive to better appreciation and understanding. It can work among friends as well as with friends and clowns.

Maybe then we'll get a call from E.T.

So when are you going to send me the the VCD on Secrets of the Grain?

Anonymous said...

So Salak, you sneakily excused yourself to glue your eyes on ntv7 after I posted that reminder on this thread, eh? hahahaaha!

Anonymous said...

Bean

I think you got me wrong.Often times we use words without trying to be derogatory and in the best of intention. Perhaps this is the case with Paula.
Somehow the word lesbo have got you bent out of shape. Perhaps gay and lesbian hits too close to home or have a mean significant impact on you. For that I can understand. Even here in the US you have people like Jay Leno and Conan O Brien making fun of gays and lesbians openly.

This all started with a play of words and some words holds different meaning to different people in different parts of the globe. You take serious offence at the word lesbo yet it is freely used in other parts of the world to describe the alternative lifestyles. Let's not hold people too fast to your rule.

In this season of love and kindness to all mankind, let's drop this issue. I believe apologies are in order all around. Perhaps we all should be more careful in choosing words in the future.

Anonymous said...

Shrek,

Thank you very much. Such words of wisdom indeed and a well-thought comment to defuse the situation. You have my greatest respect. I was not wrong in presuming that you are an elegant, well-read,wise and distinguished gentleman.

God bless you and may your new year be filled with blessings overflowing.

Sincerely,
Paula
