1 for Beng Hock

Activist demands justice for Teoh
KUCHING July 22: Social activist Hii Tiong Huat held a one- man street protest seeking justice for Teoh Beng Hock yesterday.

Teoh, the 30-year-old political secretary for Seri Kembangan assemblyman Ean Yong Hian Wah, was found dead at Plaza Masalam in Shah Alam, which also houses the Selangor office of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), last Thursday.

Hii conducted his protest at the traffic light intersection in front of St Mary’s Primary School here.

He had with him a placard which bore the words ‘Keadilan Untuk Beng Hock’ (Justice for Beng Hock) and Chinese characters with a similar message. Hii conducted his lone protest from 8.30 am to noon.

“I feel sad over the death of Teoh as we have lost one great citizen. I believe his demise is politically influenced (politically related) and we need to find out the truth behind it,” he said.

Hii hoped the police, including its forensics team and related agencies, would fully probe Teoh’s cause of death and not leave the case unsolved. The MACC interrogated Teoh from 5pm last Wednesday until 3.45amthe next day before he was subsequently released.

He was said to be tired and had rested on a settee at the MACC building’s lobby around 6am.

At about 1.0 pm, Teoh’s body was found on the fifth floor corridor of the building.

Police classified the case as ‘sudden death’.

Teoh, a former journalist with a Chinese daily, was supposed to register his marriage to fiancee Soh Cher Wei last Saturday. - The Borneo Post
